I like the pace of the story, and your characters are realistic. I am glad the dad (Abner) finally showed some concern for his daughter. I definitely want to know what will happen next! Great job!

Good effective writing that will engage the reader. The dialogue is good and we are taken up with the drama of the piece always asking ourselves what will happen next in this tale of abuse and beatings.

From your author note it seems as though you need a breather. I remember back in '62, I graduated from elementary school in the morning, my brother that evening and three days later my mother and father celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. That was a busy week.
