There are many things we cannot forget . One of them is that some died. For us to live. And still some were there who were close relatives. We need to remember them.

This is beautiful. We are a people who are forgetful and yet this is a sacrifice that was made for our freedom. Should we forget the price that was paid, we leave ourselves open to having to repeat the wars. Patricia

Hi danpaid - a fine dedication to all those who fought for freedom. Your first line asks 'Can we ever forget the price' - unfortunately as years pass by the young people do not always remember, and we cannot blame them as it is to be understood. Unless it is brought to their attention in school history lessons they have nothing to help them remember. A thoughtful poem for Memorial Day. Thank you. Warm regards Dorothy x

You've written an excellent poem and an excellent message.
We probably all have stories of friends or relatives who served.
I have many, but one stands out. My uncle was at Pearl Harbor when the attack came. He was on the air strip working on a plane and saw the Zeros diving in. His friends died, he lived.
Your poem remembers those who died and those who were wounded, as well it should.
Very well done.

Yes, we should honor those alive as well as those that died. This is a nice commentary on Memorial Day and the reason why we have it. Good job and thanks for sharing.

Hi, Dan...
Indeed, we should honor and never forget. Nice tribute. If you were in the military---thanks so much.
In July, my son will celebrate '28' years in the Navy. We are so blessed that he's remained out of harms way.
Cheers & Blessings

Thanks for the comments. I was one of the drafted during the Viet Nam period. Never went to Nam but suffered as many others with the disgraceful attitudes during that time. It took years before I was proud of my service. Never regretted but just did not really mentioned it. Now I work at a Veterans Hospital and proud of those I serve here. So many heroes pass before me now from WWII, Korea, Viet Nam and the recent wars. To serve for this country is a great honor but it is always much better to be fortunate not to be deployed into dangerous places.

One of our nephews came back so badly messed up. He'll never be the same. So sad to be so young and be so traumatized.
Thank you for serving, and all you do with the vets. (*>*)

I go through this every time I do an appointment at the VA. I get perturbed at our nation's leaders and their inconsideration of what we have made possible. Have a great, Memorial Day.

The sentiment is something I can agree with. Not just because of the date but for everyday. The reading itself is bit rough. I guess this is intended as free verse.
