Great art work for this poem
No we will never forget those
who went to war to protect
ones country and to bring peace
to the world instead of loss of life
within the world.

A freedom struggle and the results give pleasure to the poet. Especially to honor the patriotic fighters, the poem deserves appreciation. Read for all those soldiers and in patriotic memorial functions.

You have written a very patriotic and truthful dedication to the mean and woman who have fought for the freedoms awarded us today. From many nations. Well written. Well done. Thank you for sharing.

Yes the sacrifice, for both living and dead and the reality of the perennial fight of war on our planet earth is appropriately evoked and portrayed here with candour and appreciation

Hi Once again Dan, we can never say or do enough for those who have given their lives for us...when we fight so hard to live...I am so grateful to all who fought...alive and passed...your heart is truly in the right place...thank you...very well done...

Hello danpald, A time poem. Of special note:
These who paid the total price
We honor now with human pride
Still it is best to honor yet
Those who fought with wounds left
(So very true, and the scars of war continue to live into future generations.)
Very good. We should all salute the brave men and women who gave and give themselves so valiantly without even the question of why ... and even those who did question why, but still served our Nation. May God bless them all. LateBloomer

p.s. An expanded Edit ... and especially those who question why and have questioned why, because the freedom they have fought for and continue to fight for gives them/us the right to question "why" without fear. LateBloomer

Agreed but the question why is another matter. That is politics and must not be referred to the soldier, family and victim. That was during the Viet Nam War and many of us suffered dearly just for serving in the military. The why of the wars is not the soldier's concern at the moment. He also has the right to vote and exercise that. Still yes we need to remember the "why" unless it brings with it dishonor to the Flag and the military personal.

This is the second memorial day poem I have reviewed this morning. The poem here starts with two and of its of its four stanzas in perfect iambic tetrameters and you can hear the soldiers feet as they march along all in step.
When a body of troops is to march across a bridge. It is customary for the to be ordered to break step as the rhythm of all in step could set up harmonics that might cause the bridge to collapse. I wondered if this was what the poet had in mind as the rhythm breaks in the first line of the third stanza, recovers and breaks again in the final line of that stanza. From this there is no recovery and with the step appropriately the fallen cross the bridge for the other sound, where the trumpets no doubt sound for them.
After my initial failure to understand this collapse of the rhythmic quality of the poem I realised that this collapse was a marriage of form and content as the soldiers crossed their metaphorical bridge from life to death.
Very cleverly constructed.

Thank you for the comments. I never really care so much about the rhythm when I write. I just write as the heart moves with some thought to word play. This happens more from the muse then from my skill. Thank you for the information of marching over the bridge and the insight it gave you. That is the wonder of poetry it can have so many meanings hidden within the flow of words.

I f someone can find it then someone must have put it there whether they realised it or not. Next time they'll do it on purpose. That is another beauty of sharing poetry we learn as we go.

As a proud United States Army veteran I can fully appreciate this little ditty of yours. Easy to follow story line and a crystal clear message that shows why we can never forget those who paid the price for us.
