I'm so of the opinion that we need to put in print the many important happenings in a families life. Before Doc died I got her to let me get 25 different stories down before she died on February 3rd. Thoe stories are now preserved for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, and who knows how many other generations. I enjoyed reading very mich. God bless.

One of the loveliest pieces I've read from you to Miss Lexi, dear Baroness. I thoroughly enjoyed its thoughtfulness, the picture it paints of those occasions, or traditions, in your family, and the obvious pleasure you all get from them. I like the touch of sly humour in "it's probably just as well I can't" at the end - like it's probably better not knowing what cats think, too, lol.
Few little spaggy bits and one suggestion, nothing dramatic, and I'm not knocking a star off this when I know you'll fix 'em anyway:
I then cut our sandwiches into windows (think X) - are windows for sandwiches square shapes, or triangular? If square, a + sign might make it clearer. This just puzzled me, not knowing the term.
love affair with the great outdoors began which - began, which
view the decorations as different as - decorations, as
car announcing, "Right. Left.", thereby - "Right. Left," thereby (the comma at the end of speech works as the full stop; the speech is part of the same sentence as what follows, in this case.)
you see a school bus which you readily - bus, which ("which" is almost always preceeded by a comma)
I bet Lexi will be a better guide than many a GPS once she's got a handle on the left, right thing! :)
Love,
Louise xxxx

milady, thanks for all the suggestions -- I will fix them post haste -- the windows are cut diagonally across the sandwiches which turns the little sandwiches into 4 triangles -- love, jan

Gotcha! That's the way sandwiches are usually cut here, too, but the picture and the term windows made me wonder if it meant the square way.

I love the way your comments flow from linguistic development to sandwich making to window shaped sandwich pieces to other windows - this piece just flows with all sorts of wonderful reflections on Lexi at this age.
What a wonderful relationship you two have as you watch her and help her grow, my friend. Brooke

Jan, what a loving letter to your Lexie. If she takes after her grandmother, she will embrace the memories you are sharing with her. Great descriptive write. Loved the details (think X). I hope her windows will bring her joy and growth as she goes through her life. There will be mistakes, but those she will learn from. Thanks for sharing this part of you and Lexie's relationship! xoSusan

Even if Lexi made a mistake as long as she learns from it there should be no regrets. I have no regrets because after everything I have done I've learned and can help someone now. She has great guidance and will be just fine.
I'm counting on you having it down pat by Thanksgiving this year because I'm placing you in charge of directions when we go decoration-seeing. (She'll have a blast doing this because for awhile she'll feel like she's in charge.)

Jan, what a wonderful idea to share these special moments
with your granddaughter and to write her a book so that
she can remember these moments. Third paragraph (possible)
I enjoyed this and I like to write stories for my grandchildren to remember me by.

This is sweet, I do this most of the time with my grandchildren, time and condition permits. They like to know about their parents' childhood, and I happily provide them with those memories ... Interesting.

This is so well done and creates a wonderful image of a very nurturing and endearing grandma. I am certain her Mom was just like this. You are a saint. It is often hard for grandparents. This will be a wonderful treasured book for her.

it is also a way to capture things for her mom which I didn't take the time to capture as she was growing up -- yes, her mom was a mess, too -- thanks for sharing, love, jan

What a great idea to write these memories for your granddaughter. It is simply written and I can tell heart felt. I too like how you show the similarities between babe and mom when she was the same age. I know this will be something Lexi will cherish as she grows up.
