I am sorry that I do not have a six star rating to offer you. This is one of the best op-ed pieces I have read in a long time. Too bad mainstream media has none like you. If Isreal returns to pre-1967 borders they will be unable to defend themselves militarily. I have stood on the Golan Heights and looked out over the vast lands where their neighbors could attack from. If the borders are changed back there will be one place where Israel will only be eight miles wide.

The main stream media doesn't even hold to the promises those in it make, as they stopped relying back to me completely. To me, it is just another reason that cities remain in so bad a shape as they do. I'll be honest, the did put part of this up on their internet, but it was so heavily edited, as they strictly turned in into a piece to defend Israel, it lost all meaning or consideration for the rest of the world.

To be honest, you hunting, finding and commenting on this is the greatest rating that anyone can get. I thank you so very much for finding this, taking the time to read and review it, not to mention the incredible compliments. Mike

a free reign to come into the house - free rein
peaceful, self-governance - drop the comma
While many felt Mr. Net's speech was blustery; - change semicolon to comma
You make your points thoughtfully and clearly, Mike.
Just one thought, if we are to determine borders and sovereignty in the middle east by going back to the time of the start of recorded history, are we going to sign over the United States to the Native Americans who lived in Philly and Baltimore before our ancestors arrived? Brooke

As much as we muck those cities up, I don't think they would be happy with what we give them. That was my point exactly, like it or not, borders change for a variety or reasons and you can't really change them back.

I think Israel understands this more then the Palestinians who were displaced from a different area. I think Israel understands that, but the Palestinians don't want to. There may be similarities with reservational land and the Palestinian controled areas, and they can be miserable and unwelcoming places with much resentment and bitterness to those who visit or want to.

Yet, in our society there is nothing from keeping an American Indian from joining American society and so many do and enjoy a higher quality of life. To many people's knowledge about both the situations is only obtained from the news, and I wanted to hint that the reality is much more different.

In my opinion the media always seeks out making the wrong people spokepeople who are considered authorities and experts, and their motives and statements are not questioned... instead of seeking out people with better views who actually care about obtaining a much better and more perminant outcome. This happens in regards to many other countries as well.

Brooke, thank you so much for this fine review, the corrections are made too. Mike

This chapter, called "Israel? Country or Pawn" was an interesting chapter to read. I am in full agreement with the author on this issue of Israel and the Palestinians. In fact, I would probably go further and state that it would behove Israel to kick all the Palestinians out of their country--at least the ones that are openly hostile to Israel--and put up a border fence all around it.

It is my observation that the Israelis are more or less a tit for tat people, as if they wanted to they could quickly and passionate demonstrate with force what terrorism is all about. I think they don't do that because of their experiences of the Holocost. Thank you for the review and sharing your thoughts.

I found out that at least online the Sun posted this, but in a highly edited and word reduced form and they missed the finer points that would even apply to the aspiring Islamic nations. They way they did business my edited work only brought out the Israeli, lovers and haters, not what I was hoping to accomplish in terms of pairing reality with practicality... and end results.

Hi Mike,

I almost hate to tell you this but I like Obama and I think he is trying to do the right thing. While I don't agree with all that he says I do think his heart is in the right place. I did hear Netranyahus's speech and I think he is also trying to do what is right for his country. Where this will end who knows? I agree we haven't the right to tell others how to govern their lives. I hope the newspaper does print this essay. You are such an excellent writer that they will miss their chance to publish something meaningful...chey

Chey, it may be ubpopular in some circles, but it isn't a sin to like Obama. One observation that I made regarding talk-radio is that many republicans don't like talk radio because if the host doesn't like something that they do, they get criticised just the same. I like your observations in this review and thang you for it and the compliments.

Lately, I have been giving the Sun a few days to decide then posting the link on their Facebook Wall. I also sent this to Al Jazeera so they have a little friendly competition. I do have the feeling that may internet traffic is monitored. Mike

Very interesting essay, with thoughts that only makes me smile...you say "get past politics" I say impossible!

I feel quite differently, though I know, for sure, any comment on behalf of the Palestinian people is to be considered anti-Semitic....So let me just say there are two sides to this story!...That people only wish to see one side, and refuse to even consider that there may possibly be another, is what is so clear..

To go further would only cause me to be called anti-Semitic, and God knows that I hate no one......you speak in terms of three boarders, "geographical, economic, and cultural"...geographical, and economic, are quite clear...but Cultural, I question your assertion...of course you have every right to come to your own determinations, but certainly others may have differing thoughts..

It is also clear, that you dislike the now sitting president, always have, therefore, it is not surprising to me that you would not even give some slight consideration for his statement, which is not the first time such thoughts have been considered...no, not demanded just mentioned...I am not a political person, but I do know something of the history and "Culture" of the area,
it is a Cultural center for the Faith of three different
religions, Judaism, Christianity, and for the Muslim...there lies the problem, in my humble opinion, since, I am obviously not as enlightened as you appear...I Pray that one day all people there would be able to find peace, as they deserve..

No, I do not agree with hatred of one group against another in any way....No, I do not want to see any person in Israel hurt, nor any Palestinian,

but, Yes, I do think the Palestinian people, not the Hamas, or any other group, but the PEOPLE, deserve a place to call HOME!....and quite frankly I make no excuse for feeling that way....

Peace talks have been on and off for years, nothing is ever
going to be done that will satisfy all sides, I only pray that one day there will be peace for the sake of everyone...

It appears to me that simply the word "Muslim" brings to your mind only the negative, I chose not to believe that all Muslims are the kind of which you speak....I know many,
and have had some in depth conversation with them...just as you did chat with one Palestinian...Although I am sure you have been to Israel many many times, and visited the areas where the Palestinians live, and of course you know of their daily activities, No! not of Hamas, but of the PEOPLE...

There are No perfect people in this world, and No group of perfect people, we are all imperfect....

I give 5 stars for your essay, as I saw no spag.

I honesty think what prompted this column is the fact that I have seen it so many times before, and it hasn't worked, and doing more of the same to an increasing degree would be a tragedy.

Where I stand in politics is a bit conservative, but rest assured while I piss of the liberals, I totally freak out the rebubs as I try to stand by the truth of guidence and honesty.

To say I don't like Obama is a bit harsh. During the election I honestly liked what he said and wanted to vote for him. The reason that I didn't was I asked the question how, and with no one answering my own thoughts on that I felt he wasn't a good choice, so I held my nose and voted for McCain as he wouldn't be much better. Baltimore is a 50/50 black white makeup and I loathed the thought of talking with black people, but remained honest to my answers none the less. It was a great lesson for me as I was accorded nothing less then total respect for my answer. I even had a little fun with them as they asked if I would vote for a Black person, I mumbled under my breath, I already had several times, but most blacks wouldn't consider them as such as they are conserative. One the flip side of the coin, I was labeled a racist and KKKer by so many white people and talk about venom for disagreeing with them. Even on FanStory which broke my heart as normally there was a lot of respect and understanding for divergent views, yet moderated by a poets heart. I did cry and still do over the loss of my FanStory friend or friends.

Most of my thoughts about world peace came with a disolving marriage and run away step daughter, I felt while this wasn't right, I was meant to experience this sad affair... Though I wasn't the one that cheated. Strangely enough it matches what was stated in the book, The Art of War, which I also feel is When to Realize a Peace.

I am not anti-Muslim nor Palestinian. I know one personally and he gave me the best compliment that I ever got. I hated God for the thoughts he put in my head, and gave my position on the rocket attacks in Israel by threatening to model rocket his house. No man is prepared for another to pull out a satelite image with the ranges indicated. Needless to say he said if I do he will call the police and I laughed as I compared the local police to the United Nations. I told him it would be best to do what Israel does and get a few friends together and beat me up. He point blank asked me how I feel about a Palestinian homeland and that is when I thought about the nature of borders, I felt a Palestine would best be served though Israel. The ultimate compliment? Despite his hatred he said, " Ahhh... Maybe God will appreciate you for your honesty." I believe he thought I was right, but couldn't forgive. In my opinion, the Jewish most routinely forgive those that removed them from their lands and try to destroy them as well. That is how they move on and I had to do the same with a drunk driver, who may have killed the high school sweetheart that I wanted to be with for my life. Somehow, the realities of the goals of life came through.

It is too easy for us to give Islamic People the cretens and terrorist the status of representing them. I hate to say it about Muslims, but those I personally know are not only my friends (and they know my sentiments) they live a life more Christian then Christian's themselves. Self admittedly as well. Like us, they seek a improved quality of life within limits and not taking away from another. I recieve their admiration and it is also a reason that I am willing to put myself in a bombs way or crosshairs, as I feel they deserve better in their own county. That is why I concluded the way I did in the column, so the leaders of Islamic nations understand this. Most of the Muslims over hear, are more concerned with conecting themselves with people of similar beliefs, not religious practices and always find comfort in similarities. In their case, they fled for religious reasons, with my own grandparents, it was for social and economic reasons.

The problem with the world today is only the fervent seem to find media time, and what is neither right or just for the bulk of the people. In regards to that one Palestinian, he came over here as his land was taken away, but what he didn't mention was he cided with the enemy. On the same token, Jewish people were removed or killed on the same land.

I enjoyed the challenges set forth by this review and hoped I clarified a few things or inspired you as well. I thank you for the compliments and this review. Mike
reply by mrsmajor on 25-May-2011
No, nothing has really been clarified, and I am inspired by life itself, however, we come from different sides of the street..that's life, though. I have been around a bit, and have met many people with different view on the middle east situation, as well. Few are concerned with the Palestinian people...and I understand why! While educating myself, and teaching, I came across many different people, and learned a lot, from the ordinary everyday man, also my Husband and I had many different friends. I don't choose my friends by who they are or where they come from, simply by whether or not I like them....People are people to me, some I grow to be fond of and some I would never want to be around...It has nothing to do with where they come from.. My husband and I travelled a lot, and I have seen much..He left me in sleep more than 20 years ago....I am not swayed very easily, by the thoughts of others, at my age, I am, who I am...Still, without question, I believe the Palestinians deserve a place they can call home.... of land, that ..And as I mentioned in my review, I am sure many will call me anti-Semitic, which is certainly not the case...
"That you feel a Palestine would be best served through Israel" is fine with me, since I have to right to disagree...

I reside in India and our country has a fairly stable relationship with Israel. While we do not make a strong case for Israel,we do acknowledge their patriotism, their tenacity and their guts to hold on what is rightfully theirs! I for one have always admired the Jews, who inspite of the holocaust and the genocide which followed it, have moved on and have built a nation out of the torture they endured during WW2 with their flesh and blood. This is not a rev. in the real sense of the word but a feedback to your letter which you have sent to The Baltimore Sun. In countries controlled by Muslims ,you are right when you say that other religions are interferedwith and the people are persecuted. They are quoting The Holy Quran to suit their purposes and then do evrything possible by doing the contrary of that which is written in their Book. They are becoming a band of terrorists who can only rule by the sword! By intimidation and depriving others of their rights. Israel is an example of how much a country can achieve when it has the will to do so. Yes America is their friend and probably Pres. Obama said what he had to, to keep the Muslims in control by not openly taking sides. But even Obama has acknowleged the duplicity of the Muslims when without informing Pakistan he quietly entered their country and killed that master terrorist Osama!
I will stop here. As otherwise there will be no stopping me and I will keep on and on like a woman possessed! God bless Israel. may its troubles end one day and may all the terrorists of the world be destroyed and thrown in a hell of their own making. I have been very much impressed by your letter and do let the world know the truth. Gooloom

India herself has had to deal with terroristic acts. I know more about both India and Pakistan more them most Americans because I learned Indian cooking and had to figure out how to fit myself into society to get the knowledge that I needed. It drove me nuts that I picked up that most Indian women weren't really happy with my food, but out of a false sense of respect refused to criticise my cooking. One brave woman, though hesitant told me I wasn't using a much needed Indian spice, "Salt!" Those adventures well be mentioned in a future chapter of my bio.

I agree with what you say and think that the Holocost has guided Israeli thought the most and that is why there isn't an out right war to secure it's borders. I think Pakistan is trying to get the best from both worlds at the expense of their people and it does grieve me and I did send the leader a snappy Email explaining why, but I realize they are between a rock and a hard place.

I really appreciate this review and thank you for it and the compliments, Mike.

I am with you friend. It grieves my heart to have a President who is so in favor of the Muslim world, he would make such statements to Israel. I believe with all my heart our well-being as a nation,is based on out treatment of Israel. Look at the weather and how it 'seems' to have turned on us. I don't recall a time when we have been hit so many tornadoes and constant rain.We will all 'feel' this if the rains don't cease for a while. The farmers can't get into the fields. God bless's those who bless Israel. I pray our 'President' open his eyes. Very well written piece. Was it received by the Sun? If not it was received by the 'Son'.

Know what you say about tornados, I had an EF-0 whizz by my house last year. While Obama's mideast policies don't grieve my heart, it concerns my head some of the stances he takes because I fear the outcomes will be the opposite for the Muslims as he expects. At least I hope, expects and it is not a deliberate engineering. A lot of things he has said, is like a lot of references made in reference to a deliquent and run away step-daughter. All to often, this person or that would consided to be a positive influence when I tried to get them to realize it is the opposite that actually happnes. I enjoyed this review and thank you for it and the compliments. Mike

this is very well written, mike, a great job writing about the rights of Israel being run over by those who wish to harm them but yet being accused of laboring for war. A friend of Israel is a friend of God, an enemy is Israel is an enemy of God. i hope you get good responses.

I do believe you are right, and all too often most would believe that Muslims aren't included. In Netanyahu's speech to congress, I was very happy that he mentioned the accorded freedom of Muslims who are Israeli citizens and hope it shames Islamic nations a bit. Thank you so much for this complimentative review. Mike

I agree. The politics of our home land leaves much to be desired..I believe Israel was hurt by the Presidents slap and I only hope and pray that time and a new president will change that. Mr.. Netanyahu had much to say and I felt honestly put our president to shame. Thank you for sharing..

Perhaps origianally, but I think it brought out the best of Israel and Mr. Netanyahu and hopefully put a little bit of humility in Obama's life. That was actually why I mentioned the difference in appearance of being talked to verses talked down to. I really enjoyed this review and thank you for it and the compliments. Mike
