I have watched several documentaries on things like this and all the other things that dogs can smell etc.

It is very interesting to know these things and to know that the scientist and others still are working on improving these things.

Hey Bevver, fantastic write and I just dived on this one my friend. I have seen a thing on telly about it...a guy had a mate with a dog...the dog kept sniffing at the guy...his mate said the dog could sniff out cancer...he went to the doctor...a biopsy later they said "you're alright go home"...his mate said NO go back...he went back and insisted on heavier tests and they found microscopic cancer cells...I thoroughly believe what you say.
I remember throwing a ball over the top of my dog oneday and she did not see or hear it...but seconds later she tracked the scent in the air above her, looked at me and bounded off to fetch something she neglected to see or hear land...unbelievable...I really liked this most informative write but I found the large print freaked my eyes out.
Any reason why so large???
Maybe down one notch...I just found it a little disconcerting as I read. Maybe see what others think.
Well done clever girl. I really liked the first half when you spoke about all the clever things the dogs nose was used for.
Cheers closet xoxo

Hi, closet. I had to laugh when I read your take on the print. I appreciate the insight, what made me laugh was that last time I posted something, I got chewed out for not making it large enough LOL. Seriously, I see what you mean and appreciate your noticing the details, my friend. Thanks for reading and am glad to know you liked what you read! Take care, Bev

I am begining to see that, but it's no different than the public who decides whether they want to buy your book based on the cover or the typeface. So, the attention to details is important. Thanks again, closet, for caring enough to mention your impression. Hugs, my friend! XXX Bev

This was a very interesting short story to read about dogs having a keen sense of smell and being able to use this to smell out cancer in human beings. It held my interest all the way through. I enjoyed reading this short story.

You should have entered this in the non-fiction contest, Bev. It is extremely well written, and it shares important cutting edge information. Your construction is excellent - luring us in "by the nose" and then detailing the heart of your write in compelling terms.

It's passing strange that dogs' olfactory abilities are in constant use by police and security agencies, but not so much by the medical establishment. Is detecting crime rated higher than saving lives?

You mention the sources for this write in your author notes. But do you know if there is a website or blog where one can register support for this new frontier in cancer research?

What a beautiful and informative article you have written here. I have the utmost respect for all dogs that are trained to help in any way, but this is absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing this information. It is very well written, and it held my attention throughout.

Bev, your story is very well written and is wonderfully educational. I've heard of these marvelous service dogs. In addition, there are service animals that assist those with a broad range of disabilities. Regarding your section on experimentation, I want to thank you for advocating on behalf of these animals. Blessings, Hector

Thanks so much, Hector. You are so right - they even can predict when someone is having a hypoglycemic attack. Thanks so much for your support, as always. Warm regards, Bev

Hard to believe, but not that unrealistic. And I'm talking about that sense of smell. It would be nice thinking there is a way for detecting cancer without any invasive surgery needed. We already rely on the dog's nose for truffles, escaped convicts, and vermin. Why not diseases. No SPAG noted while reading.

Nice work. I've read about some of these animals detecting diseases. Thanks for sharing.

One item.

You wrote: "The dogs achieved an amazing accuracy as high as 99%.case with humans." Not sure what you meant here. After the "%" it didn't make sense to me.

Fascinating what animals can do for us. And to think some people abuse them. I enjoyed reading this article filled with important information. I was not aware that there had been instances that "regular" dogs had sniffed out cancer. I guess everyone should have a cancer sniffing dog since it's so prevelant. Thanks for sharing this well written information.
