Many thanks for your update--when I saw the title, I was most reassured and had to read on quickly to hear how you are faring. Your sense of humor is clearly seeing your through the itching and pain. Your "gorilla" analogy is choice! I send you best wishes for the June appointment and final treatments and rapid healing after this long saga. -Joan

Barbara, I could empathise with what you wrote. My wife was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer spread all over her body. Taking her age and thin build into consideration, the docs have started Chemotherapy for the last two months. She has gone through two cycles and shown some progress. However, I see her wilting like a flower, and she is now unable to carry out many of her daily chores all by herself. If there is hell on earth it is cancer. You are indeed a brave woman and manage to write even after this ailment. Watching my wife going through this ordeal I don't even feel like going before my computer or laptop. My creative juices have dried up, and humor died a premature death. I am half the man that I was a few months back. I admire you and your grit. My wife is also bearing all the suffering with a nonchalant grin and hopes to recover soon. I've read and heard about optimism, but I'm seeing in two cases, one in the real world and the other in the virtual world.
I doff my hat to you and wish you all the best.

Thank you for your encouraging words. My prayers go out to your wife and your family. I have to fight cancer, because I refuse to let it win the battle.

Thank you for the kind review. I hope the kids gave me somthing too. I would rather it be treatable than to have to live with it for 5 years.

I honestly am at a loss for words of encouragement. You have probably heard them all by now and words can seem empty at times like this. No one should have to suffer like you are doing. I think that your taking the time and making the effort to write this update for the benefit of your fans is a totally selfless act on your part and I for one, appreciate the effort it must have been. I will remember you in my prayers that your suffering will end soon. It has been going on far too long without a break. Thank you for writing this.

barb, beside this being well written, the sixer is for your amazing courage. i just can't picture you able to write in such a state - pysically and emotionally. i'm glad you've been able to do that, and that you have talent. it should be one of the remedies too. wish you well and thanks for sharing.

I am sure my writing has helped me through all of this, but more importantly it's the friends I have made through my writing that has given me the strength.

Your story filled me tears. I too have had a double mastectomy, but unlike you needed no further treatment as they said the cancer did show in the glands they removed. You have written it as it happened, forcefully and without self pity, which I think is a credit to you. Like you I had my youngest at 40. My heart bleeds for you. I know this is supposed to be review, but you have told the very worst side of breast cancer with truth and honesty. Your article is well written and I hope others are moved to join me in prayers for recovery. PS that drug they have given you is a devilish brew, I only pray that it works for you. Thank you for sharing and I am glad you look forward, hope is the answer to your prayers.

Am sure God has something real good and special for you Barbara. I admire your sense of humor, courage, transparency and endurance. I don't know how easy would be for you in Texas to find an aloe plant, and use its oil directly in your arm, I think it can help.
Barbara, my prayers will continue. God bless you dear friend.

Aloe grows in parts of TX, but I am having problems finding pure aloe. I can't understand why. Thank you for your kind review.

Being new to FS, I have not known of your struggle until now. The folks here are a tremendous group and if they are on your side your have a great cheering section.
Your essay was most informative i.e. drugs, treatments, pain. Things no one knows until they are in the midst of it, you have shared here.
If another woman reading this is or will experience what you do in the essay, the essay will give her a better understanding as well as knowing that someone else is getting through this difficult period.

I love your sense of humor even about cancer and drug side effects - maybe the itching is a reaction to the Tamoxifen, and maybe you caught cooties from your pupils. LOL
God bless you, my friend. And please, no getting pregnant again! ;-) Brooke

I'm sorry for all the pain you are having, especially from the burns caused by radiaton. My mother experienced the same type of burns on her stomach/abdominal area after radiation for what they determined to be ovarian cancer. I hope other readers will be able to offer you some suggestions for relief. You are certainly in my prayers, and I will be watching for updates.
