You're increasing the level of suspense and paranormal happenings, Bev, and I love it! I'm also getting a good feel of your team and their various personalities.

Great description when Luke studies the painting of Bellingham:

"The hair on his arms rose in reaction to the sense of unease this imagined intimacy created."

It seems that Jenkins is Bellingham's "bitch", passing warnings to the Paranormal crew through the possessed caretaker.

Super job with this chapter, Bev!

Hiya, Marietta. Thank you for this awesome review. I'm really glad you felt this chapter provided more insights into the personalities of the team members. There's more to be revealed along those lines! I'm very grateful for your support and encouragement.

Luke seems pretty cocksure of himself. Perhaps he hasn't yet run into an entity he couldn't outwit or out-maneuver, btu he needs to realize that doen't mean that it's beyond the realm of possibility. Especially in the realms that he, Mia, Mike, and Emma are dabbling in while at the Bellingham Estate.

Some dogs are extremely territorial. My Chihuahua won't allow anyone, not even my wife, to get within two feet of me without barking and growling in a threatening manner. So, I completely got the picture of what old man Jenkins' dog was doing. he was protecting what's his, and watching over his master's well-being.

But why old man Porter would want a portrait of a man who brutally murdered someone in his home is a bit...odd, to say the least.

Now, suspecting he may be a conduit for Bellingham's evil entity makes the whole situation even more dire.

Hopefully, the Maine Paranormal Society can deal with it.

Nicely written, Bev. Another excellent and suspense-filled chapter.

    It was my pleasure, Bev. I don't know how I missed the middle chapter of this. I'll have to go back through and read it later. :}

This is well written and makes the reader feel present. I have actually witnessed "the voice" on one occasion and it scared the wits out of me.

With such strong resistance and demonstration so early, it's sure to be quite a bumpy ride.

"He fell back against the wall. Grabbing his head, he pulled at the roots of his hair as if he was trying to eject invading insects."

Tee hee! I got a great visual from this defining moment! :) Gotta have a creepy caretaker and then to have him possessed! Oh my what a yucky place to have to investigate!

I kept feeling a familiarity while I was reading and relating to the characters. Not the caretaker! LOL! Mia kind of felt Nancy Drew-ish and Luke was kind of "feeling" Scooby Doo -ish.

This is NOT a criticism in any way! This storyline is still working very nicely. I only say this to make you aware. I am not sure of your intended audience. If it is JA you are dead on. If it is the adults you may need to make things, well, darker? I would perhaps be better to find out your intent before I say these things but I honestly got those feelings and wanted to share them with you. By the way, I happen to like Nancy and Scooby very much! :)

Hi, TheSprite. I appreciate your shared insights. There's a lot yet to come that will, possibly, change the way you see these characters. Having said that, I'm not offended by either of your comparisons. I grew up on Nancy Drew. And I do think there's an adult market for this type of book. Gore and ultra-dark is getting a bit old for some of us. Thanks much for the excellent review. :) Bev

LOL! HBO and their different productions based on books has certainly taken the gore and blood to another level. I get that! :)

Can't wait to see what that dead S.O.B. and his nasty spirit will cook up for our friends next! :)

I've been giving more thought to your remark about the genre, so your insights are appreciated. I'm not sure what I'll do with this after I finish it on the site. Right now, its more for my own entertainment and, of course, growth, that I'm finishing it. Always more to learn! Thanks again. :)

This piece was well written and the imagery good. It is very creepy because I believe in demonic possession. A frightening thing to even imagine, but it is real.

I also like the author notes. It helped me immensely as to the first three terms on the list. The others I knew, but for some, they many not know. I am looking forward to more of your work. Have a great week.

Hi, Drew. I think there is considerable evidence for the phenomenon of possession. Whether it's other entities or just something at odds in the mind of the person, there's no doubt it is dark and threatening. Thanks so much for the grand review. I appreciate your continued interest in my novel. :) Bev
