I suppose you would have to know the criteria upon which such decisions are made by God. To me, they seem to be somewhat random in nature, but who am I to question. This tale is neatly compiled, with a clear and engaging storyline and reads well. Good work.

This is a really beautiful poem. My father is in a hospital, soon to be a nursing home, and he was a farmer for most of his life. Your poem really does a fantastic job of posing one of the most disturbing aspects of our society, why people end up in windowless boxes of rooms staring at walls and shut out from nature. I think we could do much, much better than that. Like you, I hope to end my life differently. Thanks for sharing your personal story presented in such a magnificent manner on your father's behalf. Best of luck in the contest. Bev

It is a shame how the aged are treated in our society. This is a very well written story/poet. There is a smooth flow of words. Good luck in your contest.

A truly sad, but heartwarming "Story in a Poem". You tell the story so well, with terrific imagery and excellent meter. Your obvious talent for rhythm and rhyme make the words of the poem flow so well. MaryLinda

Your entry is sad, but I'm happy the old man was granted his wish to die at home in his field of plenty; a place he created from his blood, sweat and tears.

What a lovely tribute to your dad and perfect picture to accompany it. When the day comes, I certainly hope you get your wish--my brother did not want to die in a hospital and was granted his desire--on chemo, he got a few more months and was able to travel to his son's home on the land in Mexico. (In stanza four, "used" lost its "d.") I thoroughly admired your ability to tell this touching story in rhyming quatrains. Best wishes in the contestwith this powerful entry. -Joan

Feeling as though I took this walk with the old farmer was purely due to your effective words imagery. I could have been there as your heart wrenching tale unfolded. Simply a powerful scene here and am pleased to have read and reviewed.

What a nice rhyming poem that describes what happens in a lot of cases.
Brought back memories of my uncle Jim. He was dedicated to his land and often
expressed it. Great tribute to your father. Your well chosen picture sets the
scene perfectly.
Very good thoughtful poem. I enjoyed it. Frankeddy
