Racing is fun!! Whether on foot or on horseback. I used to endurance race my horse in eastern Oregon. So fun-racing over the mountains and through rivers for 25-100 miles. I could relate to the feeling of victory after winning. Fun little story, Susan!! Hope you are well. Dana

WOW Dana! I have always wanted to ride in an endurance race...but wanted to be a jockey when I was a teen, and was too big...they wanted me to be a stable hand. OH well...I am happy you liked this and could relate even! I am so impressed!! Hope you get to ride more this year too! You and little Sugar should trail ride every day! I mean, he can tag along! I love having a dog go...You should write about your rides!? I would love it, so would others Dana! ?? I am packing to move...I do wish I could get out that way...but it's too expensive. There are reasons things are cheaper in Indiana I guess! Sadly. Pet Sugardog for me? Hug! Susan

You're welcome!! Did you sell your house? I don't ride much anymore, my horse is almost 30 and I am so busy with the farm and kids that it just doesn't seem to happen. In the summer, sometimes... I love it though!! I wanted to be a jockey when I was a teen too-even wrote a speech about it my sophomore year. Take care, Dana

.
Susan, terrific narrative which fills the readers with anticipation and excitement rooting for Lady, the underdog mare. Great finish ! Very well penned. Just a couple of suggestions :

every one of them were [was - since you're talking about every "one"] at a dead run

In you subtitle description : An underdog tail [tale]

Otherwise, terrific job, my friend !

Ama

I like it when the underdog wins. It doesn't happen often enough to suit me but is great when it does happen. Unless of course, the underdog is playing one of my favorite teams... :)

Well done, Buck

SUSAN! I am sorry I was not here earlier! I had to sit outside and freeze, there was trouble with someone skulking around and running hounds up around our barn spooking the horses! I came in around 1 am? I think it was. I will call you asap. Please get well, and thank you for a wonderful review too!! Love, susan

Hey Sweet Suse, Never mind, I understand - you know that. You are so busy now - wish I was there to help you - I'd sit in the cold and freeze with you - at least we could keep each other company. I get so lonesome and guess you do too. Once you get settled, DAMN IT, I,m coming to see you if you want to have me. I'll figure it out - for real! My sister,Anne, is coming Wed, so if you do call make it tomorrow night or Tuesday night. If I happen to be on line, I'll get off at 11:30.. I'm whining now, but on top of this fuc&*#! flu, I have thrush mouth from one of the med - crap!!!! Love you and looking forward to talking!!!__xoxo!

A wonderful tale of 'David v Goliath' of the horse world.
Well written with no spags that I could see.

The racing world does manage to throw up some wonderful rank outsiders from time to time. Red Rum, Sea Buscuit to name just two.

Thank you for an enjoyable read.

HI Cookie! I have never been to a race! I raced my old horse once, and he won by a length against a fancy horse that a young man thought was so great! HA! I love horses so...I am trying to pack to move and will try to read your stuff as soon as I can Cookie!! I have not forgotten you. I just had to write something! ") HUG! Susan

I have always had a lot of praise for anyone who was a jockey. How they stay on the horse is a mystery to me. Thanks to the author for re-introducing me to the art of horse racing. Jolene is a perfect name for your character. Though this story is short, it is long on good writing techniques. Your sentences flow smoothly and are strong with unnecessary words omitted. Your words are ripe with action and build up suspense that prompts the reader to read on. There is a lesson to learn here in regards to women and their ability to stand up against intimidation from the supposedly stronger sex. And the little mare proves size doesn't matter if you have the determination and heart to win. To be able to speak the language of your character and have knowledge of the sport of racing is a feather in your cap. Job well done. I enjoyed the exhilaration of the race to the end. One comment, I would remove the comma after "out" in the last sentence. It's probably a typo. I look forward to reading more of your insightful stories.

Hi Moonlith! Thanks for reviewing, I will look at the comma and see? I do appreciate the time you took for me and wonder if I fix the error if you would consider upgrading my score? I am thrilled that you liked this and look forward to your posts soon...susan

The comma distract very little from your story. I though I had given you five stars, so I would be more than happy to go back and change it if I can. I haven't been on FanStory for about 2 years.
