My heart cries for this fine animal. I wished she could've found him another home, someone who could have given him the love and the care he so richly deserved. I know the lady did what she thought was right but still, it saddens me. At least, I hope and pray at least, Mugs is now in a better where he run free and be free of the crippling forever and ever--I do believe dogs (all animals) do go to heaven. A great write my friend.

Wow, thanks so much Melissa. I really enjoyed the writing of the essay. As they say, it always flow so much easier when you write about what you know. I don't currently have any pets due to time constraints and regular travel, so I have adopted other people's pets. I especially appreciate your urging me to continue to write essays as that is something I really like to do. You are most kind to review my works today and offer such sincere and helpful comments. Best wishes...Bev

I can't see why not animals be psychic if we believe we, humans can be and I do.
Although I do think that some of the things animals and especially dogs sense can be because they hear better and smell better than we do.

Indeed they do. I appreciate you taking time to review this marcii and send along your encouraging comments. I'm going to be posting an essay in a couple of week about how dogs are being trained to sniff out cancer in humans. Best wishes...Bev

Thanks so much Paula. Have you stories of your own? I love working with animals. They are grateful for the littlest kindnesses. We would be in much worse shape were it not for the beautiful energy they send out. Thanks so much for your really lovely review my friend. Blessings, Bev

Oh yes, darling. I do. Best to you...

This is beautifully written and full of information that so many animal owners, or 'pack leaders,' need to know. It would be so much fun if you could meet Harley, Simba and Leo. I know Simba and Leo are not their happiest, but they seem to feel safe with one "Harley-free" room and knowing that at night they have undivided attention. In spite of how my stories relate to my animals, I know I do not have the depth of feeling you seem to be able to tap into to. My animals and I communicate on a very real level, but there are days when I simply have no idea what is going on. Thank you for sharing this piece. ~patty~

Hi patty. I feel you are extremely well tuned into your animals. They, for sure, know you are safe and kind and they are very happy with you. The cats like Harley more than they're willing to show. He's growing on them. Hope you don't mind my little reading of the situation, but you are feeling a little guilty and they (cats) are picking up on that. Harley couldn't be in better hands! I so appreciate your really wonderful and encouraging review. I was just wondering today when I'd be able to get another Harley fix and hoping all was well with you my friend. Blessings, Bev

Bev - thank you for your wonderful insight into my situation. I think I DO realize that Simba and Leo 'play' me a bit, but Simba rules the house and a big chunk of my heart. I'm REALLY glad you enjoyed the story. ~patty~

Oh, I totally loved it patty. I really look forward to them. I can't have pets due to time constraints, so I am definitely living vicariously through your life. Best wishes my friend!

Rest assured, pet owners - add comma for direct address
I don't understand animal cages - when I was a kid I never knew anyone who kept pets in cages - why have pets if you put them in cages?
I couldn't agree with you more that someone who is financially strapped has no business having three dogs - before obtaining a pet one should be prepared to meet that animal's needs, including medical needs.
You make lots of common sense. :-) Brooke

Thanks Brooke. I appreciate your encouraging review. I agree with your comment on dog cages and they are very expensive to boot. I appreciate your interest and review. Best wishes...Bev

Since you deal with pets you have to have heard the rationale - why have cages become popular? Surely people who buy and sell and use them must say something to justify them??
-
I'm told they use the cages to keep the animals confined, and safe, while they are away at work, etc. Supposedly, if the cage is introduced to a puppy it becomes their preferred place to rest and sleep. Friends of mine have expensive cushions and blankets to make their dog more comfortable. I, personally, find them repugnant.
-
I'm so glad to hear that you, someone intimately connected with the world of pets, feels that way - I wondered if I were just being old-fashioned and not up with the latest research, etc.
-
I find that animals require safe boundaries much like small children, so in that sense I think this is a positive trend. Glad I could help you with this as it sounds like it was troubling to your spirit.

I found your essay informative, fascinating and very touching. I believe you succeeded in sensitizing the reader to the special abilities of animals--in this case domestic animals. Excellent work. Blessings, Hector

An excellent article. I think you selected the example you did not only to illustrate your point, but also to serve as a warning to those of us who bring pets into our families without thinking about the responsibility of caring for them.
When I was a little girl, we had a cat who always knew when my mother was coming home. Pussy would take up his position at the gate, and sure enough, a minute or two later, my mother would come into sight, riding her bicycle. And she didn't even like cats!
