The emotional life of animals is fascinating and you bring up some important points. As a pet owner and avid animal lover I found this essay to be imformative and of course you held my interest all the way through. I am looking forward to reading more on this subject from you. Thanks for sharing.

Ahh-h-h-h-h! Is that what I look like this afternoon. .. Heaven forbid. ... Oh. .... Wait a minute. .... This is only a picture in my monitor - my monitor has Not turned into a mirror.
This was an excellent article. Well written, and it presents its information well. It definitely provides something for the reader to think about.

Exceptionally well written and thought out essay. I accept all of your observations as fundamentally true. Pets (including service-animals) and undomesticated animals can demonstrate observable emotions. Some are even treated by animal "psychologists." I remember witnessing a horse running on the road near a farm. The other horses by the fence seemed to be calling it to return as they neighed or whined loudly in unison. Blessings, Hector

Thanks Hector. I really appreciate your excellent and encouraging review. Your support is always very helpful to me. There are several more essays planned along these lines - one dealing with the amazing use of animals to, literally, sniff out cancer. Thanks so much my friend! Blessings to you as well, Bev

You're welcome, Bev. You may want to check out Ama's (Fireshadow) essay on service animals. She may have done one or two. Blessings, Hector

Hi Bev
This beautifully written account displays your obvious talent for the documentary style of writing. You have the knack of slipping in anecdotes and case studies into your general narrative so you keep the reader's attention throughout.
One aspect I'd like you to cover in future parts is language. I have to be careful never to say words like 'walk' or 'going out' in front of my Jack Russell Mr. Patch because he immediately tries to open my front door.
Interesting choice of illustration.

Good morning Ron. Thanks so much for taking time to read the essay and send along your excellent thoughts and suggestiosn. You have read my mind, my friend, because I do plan to include the topic of how animals can be 'psychic' and the amazing ability to be trained, literally, to sniff out cancers in the next installment(s). Your support really means a lot Ron and is much appreciated. Because of allergies, I don't currently have a pet, so I'm jealous of y'all. XXX Bev

Animals do have such a depth of feelings that we can not even comprehend.
I have seen so many examples of this over the years.
The tale of the Elephants is a perfect example of this, only yesterday I watched a programme about a Water buffalo doing the same after it's calf had been attacked by Lions.
This was wonderful Bev and very interesting.
Best wishes.

This is a very interesting read. I have always thought that animals, even though they can't speak, are very intelligent, even those in the wild and they do feel and express emotion.
