This is a very well written story. It led me to ponder in the mystereis of life, some some are taken so early from this life, especially those innocent beings. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Oh, what a sweet story. It is so heartening to read stories of love between young chaps and adults. It gives you hope that circumstances for young people will improve in the future.

Thanks for reading Giddy. My wife always teases me that I'm universally liked by young kids, old ladies and dogs. It's just everything else in betwen that has a problem with me. Regards, Bill

bhogg:

I am so sorry about your loss but I am sure you are
right. Adam and Abbey are recreating those Neiman
Marcus days as they wait for the time when you will
join them. It is unnatural to bury children -- it is
one of the hardest things in the world to do. Thanks
for sharing this wonderful tribute to Adam and the
difference he made in your life.

Love,
jan

Thank you for reading Jan and for your insightful review. As a father, one of the things going through my mind was how would I have lived through this. Always warm regards, Bill

Bill, I felt your love and your loss through your writing. I feel bad for the family and for you... my condolences. I owned a Shepard and found it to be a great family dog. It was gentle with our children and yet a ferocious defender of them at the same time. May you find peace. Ray aka R.K.Alan(formerly Krylon)

I changed to R.K.Alan from Krylon to fix a mistake I made when I first joined. Should have done this long ago.

Thanks for reading and reviewing Ray. I've actually put off getting another dog, because I've always felt my expectations would be so high. Abbey was one of a kind! Regards, Bill

Oh my this really broke my heart. What a sad and touching story. I know how theraputic writing can be and I hope this helped you. I believe that Adam and Abbey are together watching over you.

My heart breaks for you.

A child is a blessing no matter where they come from and how they enter your life.

I can't say a thing to make you feel better and I am so sorry, but I hope I never have to live through a day like yours.

Bill, my condolences on both your losses. Children aren't meant to die. But I've buried 5 shepherds over the years, most recently in October. Abby is with Adam, guarding him and loving him as he loved her. I'm certain of that. Peace, my friend. Nancy

Thanks Nancy - when Abbey died, it truly felt like family. I could have strangled my MIL when she said, "It's only a dog."
reply by N.K. Wagner on 06-Feb-2011
You mean you DIDN'T strangle? Were it I, ears would still be burning. Of course Abby was family. She was one of you children. And Adam was, too. Maybe that's a military thing. We don't limit our hearts to blood kin. Now, what's an MIL? I don't know that one. :] Nancy

Hi Nancy - you must not be in with all the new "texting". MIL is mother in lay. Would you like to be my BFF? Best Female Friend. The list goes on and on, and for the most part I don't know what they mean either!
reply by N.K. Wagner on 06-Feb-2011
Texting? I'm lucky I can find my way online! I actually own a cell phone that only makes and receives calls. I only write about technology. I have little need to actually use it. Thanks for the education, friend. :) Nancy

Hi, Bill, I was trying to find out whether this is a true story or not, when I read the category: Essay Fan Fiction. Though I don't know yet what this means I'm glad this touching story is fiction. Adam seems like a lovable boy. I like the relationship that grew between him, the narrator and his wife, and Abby. Your conclusion paragraph is delightful.

Hi Belinda - I'll have to revisit the categories, because this is very real. I was at the funeral at 10:30 and as therapy, had the story written mid-afternoon.

Hi Belinda - I did revisit and change to non-fiction. The category Fan Fiction is right below non fiction and the type is so small that these old eyes can't see! Bill

Oh Bill, I'm sorry. Your account is a most excellent write, but so sad...what on earth happened to Adam? I feel I could have loved him too. I wish I could have met him. They say only the good die young. He was good. I love, hate, this ending. I rarely cry at writing, but this has me in tears. I am sorry for your loss Bill. Sincerely, susan

Adam was one of the two people in North Carolina who died from flu. I do think there were some underlying issues. Thanks for reading. The funeral was a celebration of life. If my story made you cry, you should have heard some of Adam's classmates relate on what Adam meant to them and the school. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Regards, Bill

I have to ask, what happened to Adam? Such a sweet yet sad story. It'sprobaly like loosing a grandschild.

I suppose (-that) there is a mystique out there that the breed is ferocious.
(i'm partial to German Shepherds bcause I grew up with them and it is rare one is vicious without reason, usually to protet the family. They areterrific with children. U used to hear Dobbies were vicious, but haven't seen that one either.

May be (maybe), but that certainly wasn't our experience. Adam loved Abbey, and it was mutual.

, but I always felt (-that) his love for Valerie was

I noticed (-that) when he left, he had saved one of

Hope you spirits brighten.
lots of hugs

Hi book - Thanks for reading. Adam started out just being diagnosed with flu, but apparently had some underlying problems as well.
