What a stunner this poem is. Love is so beautifully expressed within it. Your poem made me cry. It has a power within the sentiments shared to provoke deep thought and motivation. No wonder it was selected as the winner of the competition.

Marijke I just love this poem and I dont have a six to give, but believe me it has the worthiness of far more.. it flows beautifully from the beginning to end and has a really honest and thought provoking emotion running through each line. I am glad you are still writing your poetry and as well your book for your talent in both areas is excellent my friend. best of luck in the contest Marijke , this love poem is so uniquely impressive in more ways than one.. sending happy smiles and lots of hugs your way, luv from melxxxx

Hi Melissa. Thank you for your virtual six, my friend. I have been amazed at the response to this poem. I don't even know where it came from (one of those that just happens from time to time). I'm reading a book called 'If I Should Die Before I Wake'. I picked the book up as I was dusting, and the idea for the poem jumped into my head. I sat right down at my laptop (forgot about the dusting!) and within twenty minutes this was finished, artwork chosen and all. I must tell you - Nancy (Angelheart) sent me a message, which she always does when I use one of her pieces. This time she said it was the most beautiful poem she had read in a long time and if I didn't mind, she had printed it out and is putting it into a Bible, which she will leave to her son when she dies. Now, if that didn't made me teary! I tell you, I had goose-bumps.
So, my dear friend, thank you for your lovely words of encouragement and have a lovely evening. Warmest regards, smiles and hugs, Marijke :o)

Your poem contains a beautiful story of love. I've often wondered if people in comas could hear or feel the presence of another. I'd like to think they can.

Hi, Lola. I'd like to think so too, and scientific evidence seems to suggest this. Thanks for your lovely review and generous rating. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

Hi Marijke,
This is so beautifully written! A wonderful and touching love poem written in the POV of someone in a coma. I like the way your first stanza starts with "If I should wake before I die" and the last stanza with the reverse "If I should die before I wake"
Great rhyme and meter, great content that reminds us to not wait till its too late to say the things that need to be said to our loved ones.
Great job!

The sentiments of this poetic piece are probably some many of us share. It would be awful to die suddenly and not say the things we want to say in farewell. On the other side of the coin, I'm not up for a long illness either. I live my life in such a way to make sure I always let my loved ones KNOW they are loved. Every conversation ends with 'I love you.' They know its not just a throw-away phrase, and they know where I'm going when I leave here. ~patty~

Well, you done it! If it were up to my, we'd end the contest now and declare, "If I Should Wake Before I Die" the winner. I like the reversal of the age old adage. Well done!

A beautiful poem of love and one that may not be able to communicate as in the past. I personally have never felt comfortable with those who assume that just because someone is in a coma they cannot hear and comprehend. Great picture of you and your granddaughter.

Certainly deserving of six stars if only I had them to give. This is such a wonderful piece and I was in tears as I read it, thinking of my mother who died in a coma and I was never able to say goodbye. The answer, of course, is that we should say all of these things whilst we still have the chance. Good luck in the competition.
