An excellent share about what you are going through. Now that I am in remission I help others through their treatments and answer questions where I can. Keeping the protein handy was a big help for me too - even if I could not eat a lot tidbits of chicken or turkey helped.
A spray bottle for the hot flashes helps. They may end. The excellent side effect was no colds for up to a year afterward.
Being tired - your body is getting poisoned to fight the cancer - accept it. I too resisted, but somewhere during treatments I kept a couple of soft throws about, and just curled up and would sleep.
If you get the joint pains in the next phase hot showers help.
Glad the ice is working for your mouth. My upper palate was swollen all through chemo.
Let your family take care of you Christmas, and as I tell the girls going through treatment - your family knows - so rest when you need to and rejoin when you can. You will all feel better. Merry Christmas to you and yours. My prayers are with all of you.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am sure a spray bottle is better than disrobing, which would probably get me fired. I can see the headlines now, 'First Grade Teacher Disrobes in Front of the Class' Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Barbara, I'm going to be honest. You will have to seriously consider medical leave. Your body is fighting and needs rest. This is not being whimpy - it will be a need!

This sixer is for the courage you have shown doing this ordeal. Teaching first graders, posting chapters to a novel and then adding another post to keep your FanStory Family informed. God Bless

Hullo Barbara ....

With all that you have to go through during these chemo-therapy sessions, it is no wonder that you are tired and exhausted. I found your descriptions so informative that I plan to print this out and keep it in my file - with your presumed permission.

There are just a few small changes to suggest ....
* You have - There are many side effects these drugs.
I suggest - These drugs have many side-effects ... OR ...
There are many side-effects from these drugs.
* You have - Heat flashes with facial flushing ... the usual expression is - Hot flushes ....
* You have - I could not do this with out each and every one of you. ... I suggest - without each and every one ...
* You have - This fight I can not shun .. I suggest -
I cannot shun ....

Despite all that you are going through, I wish you and your family a Happy & Holy Christmas and a New Year filled with God's love and blessings.
Love from ..... Nanette Mary.

I am new to the site, so I'm not familiar with your work, or with your struggle with cancer. This is a wonderful essay that tells it like it is for those who want and need to know. May God bless you in your struggle and may He see you through each step of the way as you become a survivor!

Barbara, please know that my prayers are with you and your family. I think it's good that you talk about this with your fans because we are genuinely concerned for you.
Your protocol is not one for the weak, and your strength and courage inspires me as I'm sure it does many others.
Merry Christmas, and may you and your family rest in knowing that prayers are circulating all around you.

Let me join the other people who are wishing you a speedy recovery. You have a positive spirit and that counts for everything. You descriptions of what you are fighting off are very good. I'm glad you have a husband at your side. My husband refused chemo. He had radiation. He died in three months from pneumonia as he wasn't walking around. I pray they find a cure for cancer.

Mrs. Wilkey, the 6 stars are for the courage it took to write this update, and then produce the poem as well. I feel your journey is getting tougher, but the load will get lighter the more you trust in God. I know your faith will get you through this horrible battle. Know He is always only a prayer away. Those of us who are your support system through FS are only a click away. Remember: stand still and let God. td

Wow! You are an amazing woman my dear :) Not only going through this but being brave enough to put it out there and help explain it to others - I have a friend going through chemo at the moment but she's one of those angels who'll say she's fine even if someone was sawing off her limbs! :) I'm glad I understand a bit better what she is going through and, thanks to you, a few things I can do to help out.

Thanks again for putting this out here.

You and your family are in my prayers :) xox

I am glad I can help. That is the reason I wrote this. I hope it in some way will help others know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
