Hi Barbara, This is really well written. I hope I never have to go through it though. My mother's best friend just went through this last year. Like you she was always active and found it hard to rest. The doctor really had to put his foot down. She made it through and so far things are looking good and with God's help, I'm sure it will be the same for you.

I thought your poem was lovely. I think you may be more than a romance writer. Merry Christmas, Donna

This was a very interesting piece, I've known several people with cancer, who are in remission, but this is the first indepth account of the chemo treatment that I have read. It sounds like it's a rough road to haul and I hope for all the best for you. This a great piece of writing and thank you for sharing your experiences.

I hope my essay helps others understand cancer and treatment; although treat is indivualized for each patient and each type of cancer.

Thank you Heidi for your support, encouragement, and friendship. My appetite had been fairly good until last week. I've lost 7 pounds, the doctor wasn't happy. Last week was the worst, so far.

Ask if you are allowed to take 'Black Cohosh' It helps with hot flashes during menopause and maybe your chemo is destroying any estrogen you are managing to produce. Anyhow, it's worth a try. Hang in there. You will make it. Yes, you will.

My type of cancer feeds off estrogen. I am not sure I want to encourage estrogen. Thank you.

ooooops! A little knowledge is a dangerous thing! Forgive me.

Not a problem. I find it ironic that I raised 4 boys. I am still working on my husband. The one thing that set me apart from all these males is the one thing that's killing me. I am teasing about the killing part. I am positive I will beat this.

Barbara, thank you for sharing the intimate details of your treatment. Black tea (topically applied) is an excellent folk remedy for mouth sores. Hot or cold, just swish as you drink. I've found it to be faster acting than salt water. Good luck and God Bless. Nancy

Barbara,

Sounds like you're going through quite an ordeal. I'm not sure there are many of us who could withstand such a terrible ordeal. I'm sure all of us are thinking of you during the Christmas season and wish you the very best.

So very sorry you have to go through this ordeal, Mrs. Wilkey. You definitely seem to have the right attitude though and I applaud your strength and bravour. If you have a good health food shop nearby you could try gargling wit Calendula lotion (Marigold) for the sores. Sage tea (three times a day) is a well-known balancer and should help to counteract the sweats. It should also help to eliminate the hoarseness and is good for the throat. There's a recipe in Michael Tierra's book The Way of Herbs which contains powerful herbs and is speciifically used as an anti-cancer treatment. He uses herbs from three continents - I remember red clover is one of them--a powerful blood cleanser. Sage and red clover also supply the body with much needed plant hormones. You should be able to get Michael Tierra's book online--at least he used to have a website and I'm sure he still does. Although I've never had cancer and hope I never do, these are some of the steps I would take. You might need to check with your doctor, although sadly, a lot of them are neither familiar nor sympathetic to alternative methods. This is changing here in Germany a lot. I'm sending you lots of healing blessings. Penelope

After thought: Sage can also have a drying effect on the mucous membranes so you have to be careful there.

Bless you. Your message is so valuable for those of us who have not had first hand knowledge of the routine you have to endure. Your matter of fact way of telling the details of your ordeal are admirable. Rest now.
