This story was so moving, I got chills when I read it as each of his former parrishioners came back from the dead to escort him. I loved this submission to the contest.

A beautiful Christmas story and a wonderful entry for the contest. This evokes a lot of wonderful emotions for this reader. Not one line of dialogue - but it needed none.
Excellent entry. Good luck

Oh wow I am left with mixed emotions as I finish reading this. On the one hand I find any death sad, whilst on the other I felt that being escorted in this way seemed somewhat peaceful and befitting for Father MacDougal. Nice story. Thank you.

Thank you very much. I just popped into my head and I wrote it in about twenty minutes. I guess my muse was inspired with this one.

You're welcome. That's the best, when that happens!

Well, you have given me honest to gosh goose bumps everywhere a person can get goosebumps, Valerie. I do wish I had a six, but I don't. This is just a beautiful story. Now I'm going to have a nice little cry. Goosebumps!! Brooke :-)

I am so pleased you enjoyed this one. I saw the contest this morning and this just popped into my head. Death is sad, but knowing you are surrounded by those you love and who love you does bring comfort. Sorry for the goosebumps.

Don't be sorry, it's cool to have that visceral reaction to something, and it doesn't happen often - and more often with music than literature, for me.

When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high.
A wonderful story, one I really enjoyed.
A message protruding loud and clear.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes.

My, am I glad you saw this contest and let your imagination do the rest. Your inspired interpretation of the prompt is unique and surprising. I enjoyed every detail and could visualize the elderly priest being re-visited by his former "flock" members and ultimately joining them. Best wishes in the contest.

That we would all be so fortunate to have such friends waiting to escort us at the end. I like the use of the Christmas box letters as invitations to a new beginning.

This is such an creative way to go with this contest. It sounds like a very comforting way for a priest to end his ministry. Instead of feeling, he is no longer needed he is guiding into a more beautiful place by all who have gone before. I like the fact that he died with a smile on his face. Excellent!
