Powerful stuff,Gungalo, and it happens all too frequently.Sadly the victim is often too ashamed to reveal the crime .If she does so,insult is often added to injury by the suggestion she was a willing partner. Facing the perpetrator in court needs courage. The sentence is often far too lenient. Women need more protection from the Law and certainly treated more sympathetically. Iy is a sordid crime that can effect a woman's relationship with men for years afterwards. Your poem exposes the brutality of the act.

Congratulations on achieving Poem of the Month, friend. It certainly is stark and horrible, more so because of its normality around the world. Some men never move out of the cave, or the burrow, or whatever dirty corner they insist on. It makes me realise how very fortunate we are to love and have loved beautiful men. There are some in this world, thank goodness. Top marks again, blossom! Mwaaaah!!

This is well written, the language flows. Its is a disturbing topic, one that's not pleasant to read about, nor write about, I am sure. You did a good job with it.

ok, my friend, Gungalo:

no more reading of William Butler Yeats
for you if it causes such dark things to
evolve from your pen -- on the other hand,
congratulations for having a poem in the
Poem of the Month contest -- this is truly
worthy of that recognition -- people who
rape others have no clue the lifelong damage
they have done to their innocent victims

thanks for sharing
good luck in the contest
love,
jan

LOL, now you are truly something you!!! Thanks so much for an awesome review and well wishes for the contest. i was surprised as heck when I found out it had been picked. All my beautiful writes and the one picked is the darkest sonnet. Go figure. Your review makes me smile and sigh out loud.

Another sonnet but this one shows your eclectic ability to cover even the touchiest of subjects, dark, yes, but done well, very good, Gungalo:)

Thank you so much!!! Even the dark can't escape a poet's pen. A subject here that needs to be recognized in order to prevent it.

Yes this is so scary but true. I read a lot of true crime stories. It just reminds me on each book I read that anything can happen to you at anytime. There is a world out there with people that have no remorse for human life. Heck when they start putting humans in garbage cans, what does that say about us as a world. Well written poem.

Thanks Rachel and you are so right!!! We, as women especially, have to be very aware of everything around us. This scenario happens more than we'd like to know. Your review is wonderful and so glad you read this one.

Quite a tragic and, unfortunate reality for so many women...you have penned very smooth, easy flowing lines and your imagery is quite dark and frightening. I truly wish you luck in this contest...a great entry. Hugs and smiles, Susanne

The five stars are for bringing this subject up even as hard as it may have been to some of your readers to have to read it. I just read some of the comments and also I deal also with these women every day in my work life and there is nothing happy about it in any shape or form.

As we all know this is a worldwide situation all over it is something that pains people more then you knowing. Some have been killed after going through this brutal act. You may have wanted to put a warning to your readers on this one in my humble opinion. I always think of my readers and how it may affect them. In closing, I know you stated for others to be aware of this and it has going on for many years and unless you personally went through it, it is a very hard topic to write of. For some rape victims it is also very good to write about it for it starts their healing process if there is such a thing.

I see you did a good job here from your hundreds of viewers and the comments I read some of them, sounds more like a movie script perhaps and I am only stating my opinion here. No offense given and none taking as I see you got a good majority of the votes so far.

ps I like your love poetry better LOL as this is a shock and awe style poem lol:) smile you island gal

Oh how wonderful of you to let me know how you feel. That's important and appreciated. I was quite surpised at the nominaton of this write. Did you happen to notice it was a sonnet? Could you feel the flow and rhythm of the lines and know that the iambic pentameter was spot on? I hope you did not review on content alone for that is a matter of interpretation whereas the style and the write have definite things to be judged. Again, my Magic girl ... Thank you so very much!!!

I did not pay attention to it being a sonnet or some other form of poetry as your form or style. I commented on content to your readers of how it would make some of them feel to have to relive this indignite happenstance again if anyone has taken that from the write. Many young girls I work with have been raped by family members and friends so it was a hard thing to try to review and not sound like I was out of whack here..The content is what it is and it seems many agreed with it so it is all up to the readers I suppose. And yes to be judged on structure and consistency in the flow is very important. For me personally it has a very hard and raw emotion to it. That is all I would like to say as it is your poetic piece and not mine. Best of wishes in the contest.. Magics
