A Candle In the Night

The closest I can come to a spooky poem, I guess.

Good Morning Adonna,

I love the way you write. This poem continues your
tradition of using descriptive language that allows the
reader to feel and sense the poem and its setting as it
is read aloud.

Favorite lines include:

My loneliness is like the night;
friends have deserted, children too,
and left me here inside these walls
with nothing much to see or do,
and where not even sounds intrude.
(Oh how I can relate....)

The candle flickers in the wind
and smoky wisps rise up like dreams
that used to burn with passion's flame
but now evaporate in steam

I love the resolve in the last stanza:
I resolutely trim the wick
and find another match to light
the shrinking candle on the sill,
and realize, though it is night,
my withered hope has been renewed.

well penned, my friend. a delight to read
and review this evening.

'A Candle In the Night' sheds insight into the contrasts we live through good and bad days. The rhyme pattern is intriguing with the words ending each frame. You have a rare talent.

Thanks for sharing this really good poem, MissM.

I think your spooky poem to be very hopeful of how we change and can have hope no matter what is happening around us. Good imagery and nice rhythm to boot. Cody

I have often watched as candles burn and realized a metaphor with how our life candle burns, inexorably to the end, It is a metaphor that has been well presented in this poem

Thank you for your wonderful review and good question. You are never reading 'too much' into a poem. It is for you to read with your own imagination and perceptions, and whatever that gives you is yours to keep. Thanks so much for reading and for this great review.
