Hi there. I have been out of pocket for several days and I was happy to see so many great submissions by those I have come to appreciate in their writing. This is an exceptional poem with a good flow and you are very descriptive all through the poem. I love the photo and the photo added to the poem especially on this 4th of July. I can feel your emotion and love of the sea all through this poem--good job.

I so appreciate this loving tribute to your dad. My dad was in the Army during WWII and was born in 1920. Our lives parallel in the sense of lifespan of our dads. It seems the sea does keep calling once in the Navy. ann

I thought this was a great poem and a good tribute to your father. It had a pretty good rhythm to it and I liked how you switched tenses from past to present. Great job.

Great tribute to your father, and a wonderful photograph of him. the poem is interesting and tells us a lot about your feelings for him I have one suggestion: Keep it in the past tense. "You fight" could be 'fought" "You sail" could be "sailed" and mostly the end would be better as: You made a beat, consoled your life and went back to sailing the sea.

His hardships at sea, his thoughts, his emotions.
I like that you said how the ocean kept
bringing him back every year, like it was
irresistible. He comes back to land, only

When my brother retired Navy he found it hard to adjust to life as a civilian for quite a while. Sometimes I think he wants to go sailing again also. Great job. Leigh Ann
