I love how you lead your four stanza to the final line...really cool!

I am not a poet, but I really loved this. It is unique in topic and style, unlike anything I have read thus far.

I really like the whole of your fifth stanza as well.

The entire poem starts and ends with a powerful intrigue. Well done!!!

Who wouldn't enjoy this poem. It rolls off the tongue, ans great descriptions and is fun to read. Perhaps a meter change somewhere in there, but I enjoyed it too much to go back and check.

A very colorful ode to the Dragon of Dark Harbor. This tale is full of vivid imagery and has a great flow overall. Thanks for sharing this one Father Flaps.
My pleasure to read and review.

Here! You take my last 6. You deserve it. This is the kind of poetry I want to write. Nice touch of onomotopeia(I hope that's how you spell it). Perfect abab rhyme scheme, great story, exceptional poem! Would you answer a question for me? Your rhythm is "da-`dum, da-`dum, da-`dum, da-`dum" for most of the poem, but the second and fifth stanzas read, "`DUM, da-`dum, da-`dum, da-`dum." Is that a problem or no? I would like to do that also but I thought it was considered being inconsistent. Personally, I had to adjust the way I read your poem a little, but it still read very well. I would sure like to hear your thoughts on that. Thank you. Steve

    Hi Steve
I changed the rhythm on these two stanzas on purpose as I wanted to emphasize the descriptions of the cliffs with the birds nesting there (2nd stanza), and the dragon's head (in the 5th stanza). I wanted them to stand out for the reader.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed my poem. It is one of my favorites.
Thank you so much for the kind review, and the stars! Oh my goodness...six stars! This is indeed an honor!

I thought that was good. You did a great job with rhymes. I enjoyed the great big roar rhyming with shore. I like how you were able to set the scene first about where the dragon lives and then you talk about the dragon and its effect on its surroundings, even when it isn't doing anything. You were able to fully tell a story with this poem.

Hi Father Flaps,

You have created a rare gem of a poem here, deserving of 6 stars for your excellent story line, rhyming scheme, and skillful choice of words. This poem should be published somewhere, somehow. Could be set to music. Might be perfect in a collection for childrren. Great job.

Thank you so very much for this kind review, and all those stars! I might have to get my telescope out! Thanks for the encouragement as well! I have sent 30 of my poems imcluding this one to a publisher... just waiting for my first rejection letter. But keeping my fingers crossed! I included some illustrations with my poetry.
What a nice review to wake up to this morning! You've made my day!

I could hear the sound of, what was it? a lute? I could picture the fire in the hearth as the old bard sung the beautiful, time-honored legend of the dragon of the harbor. Belongs in a story (perhaps you could write it?) by the same name - a children's story. The meter, the rhyme, it all read (sounded) so smooth. It takes one away.

Oh, I love puffins. :-)
love the internal rhyme of horrid, torrid
droning foghorns, singing whales - you are including so many things that totally enchant me
Wonderful cadence and strong abab rhyming, beautifully vivid detail - what a charming story set midst a gorgeous setting. Brooke

I loved this story; it was very much like a song itself - maybe that's what the dragon was singing, eh?. I loved the imagery of the birds listening to the dragon's opera. (That stanza was my favorite).
Lovely, I truly enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing!
