'He was Her Husband' is a marvelous story about your father and so appropriate for our thoughts of Father's Day. You did a fine job of letting us clearly visualize this man, your mother and you.
A very fine story and pleasure to read, Ann.

good story, though I thought the mum stole the spotlight a bit. The phrase a-half of cup, sounds kindof odd. Overall theme is interesting and engaging.

I changed that phrase to "a-half a cup" and I think it reads better. Thanks so much for the generous review. ann

Ann, this is a wonderful story--sad, but very inspiring. Your parents, undoubtedly, were tremendous teachers as they taught you about life. Not only by their words, but by their actions. You and your siblings were certainly blessed.

thanks so much for your generous review. I want the story to be inspiring, but not sad. I love those summer of 1956 memories and have to take them out every so often to re-enjoy them. I learned a lot from watching my parents. Thanks again for reading and commenting. ann

This was wonderfully done Ann. What a marvelous recounting from one so young when you lost your mom. Yes, it took the years for you to mature to fully understand what your dad was actually doing for your mother, and you did. Do you remember my poem, "Dignity"? This reminded me of that piece. Thank you for sharing. excellent piece of writing. BRAVO

Thanks so much, Jude. You know how I feel about your "sixers." I appreciate your support. I'm going to go back and read your poem again. ann

This is such a moving story of a man's devotion to his sick wife. And a tribute to his wife who battled on with a normal life as possible, even when in such pain. Forty-five, no age at all in which to die. The writing is beautiful, just telling it how it was, with no hint of self pity.

Thank you so much. I was afraid I might create a bit of tearjerker and that was NOT my intent. I'm glad it didn't come off that way. I love the memories of that summer and like to take them out now and then to enjoy once more. I appreciate your remarks. ann

Ann, I'm extremely selfish with my sixes, but I wish I could give you all of them. I haven't had a blessing like this in a long time. A story so beautiful it seemed like poetry. What a magnificient man your father is/was.
I feel so priveledged to have known him for a moment. Thank you for sharing. pat

This wonderful father's day tribute is truly inspirational. The way in which your father acted towards your mother at that very crucial time has obviously left a lasting impression, and one which you recount very well.
I think it might prove to be a 'hard act to follow.'
My best wishes for teh contest.

I learned a lot from watching my parents and you are so right: "It's a hard act to follow!" Thanks so much for reading and for leaving such a generous review. I appreciate the good wishes for the contest. There ar some great entries already posted. ann

Hi Annmuma,
This is an extraordinarily tender story that paints both your mother and father in a beautiful light. Your mothers dignity and your father's part in that are well described. This is a well written story with no errors. The story itself is well balanced and nicely toned with no overtly syrupy tones, yet it is still touching.
Very nice indeed. Good luck in the contest.

thanks so much for reading and leaving such a generous review. I was afraid of creating a "syrupy" tale and am glad you feel I succeeded in avoiding that. I love those 1956 summer memories and like to take them out every once in awhile to enjoy again. Thanks for reading and for your time in sharing your thoughts. I appreciate the good luck wishes. ann
