I have to tell you, by the time I finished reading this I had chills and a tear running down my cheek. It was simply beautiful. You write in such a natural, sincere manner, as when you say you'll get back to your story. Do you remember that very old TV show "I Remember Mama"? There was always a narrator in the background telling the story from her point of view as the daughter. Your style reminds me very much of that. Thanks for a great read and best of luck in the contest.

A nice capture of the time. There are not many couples like that anymore. You were truly blessed. It drew me in well to feel as if I were sitting there, too. Good job.

Very touching! But it doesn't sound like a story about your father, it sounds like a story about your parents. And they BOTH sound like wonderful people. It seems you still miss her very much.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Annumuma, A beautiful story and a wonderful tribute to your dad. How fortunate for you that you managed to put it all together when you matured - the understanding of how this good man respected your mum's dignity. Thanks for sharing. Kelly

What a sweet picture of love and romance. Even though your mother was sick your daddy still knew how to love and romance her. That was part of the idea of allowing her to still have her dignity. She was his wife until the end. You are lucky to have such wonderful parents. The details and imagery of that time is very clear and I can hear the voices on the porch now. Good luck with the contest. ann

Things never appear as they seem. Now in retrospect you can see it was your father allowing your mother the dignity to be the wife and mother she was. A poignant story. Nick.

This is a wonderful, moving story, and well told. Of course your mom would prefer that he take no notice of her illness. Of course he DID take notice and modified his actions accordingly in a considerate, gentlemanly way. And of course a young child wouldn't understand. Thank you so much for this glimpse into a wonderful marriage.

This is very well written with a humanitarian overtone. There is very good imagery and descriptive scheme. Everyone faces the end in their own way. Good luck in your contest.

An exceptional story about your family. I liked the way he let your mother keep her self respect. Enjoy the nap part your father was very in toon with the ebb and flow of your mothers health issues.
