Not seeing this type of poem before I was going to comment on how I liked the way it was structure,I like it anyway whether it had to be that way or not.
Typical message in the poem, a guy beats someone but off course doesn't blame himself but the poor innocent person.
Great poem

Rather somber subject, but still an enjoyable read. You did a great job with the contest format. Congrats on the win. You earned it.

Keep up the great work!

Great poem Sandy. Sorry I missed this first time round. I have been sinking under messages a bit.
I quite see why this was the winner - contemporary, vivid, relevant, and cleverly drafted.
A big round of applause to you for this well deserved success!
I specially enjoyed the penultimate line. When I was in family law, this was a common account from abused women.
With all good wishes. Sally

This is a very emotional piece and something that hits close to home for me. I find it interesting the way these sort of men say the women "made them" belt them up.. no one can "make" you do anything. Thank you for sharing this, a job VERY well done.

This is a cruel reminder of what humans can do to one another. This is well written. I think this a great informative topic but I'm not sure which emotion to choose from as it stirs many...char

Dear char, I tried to convey the feelings from the woman's standpoint, as best I could. It is such a tragic and tough subject to write about, but one that I really felt strongly about. Thank you for reading, for your kind words and lovely rating. Sandy

Poet,
Your Etheree poem is tragic and heartbreaking. Abuse in any form is horrible. Your poem is very moving. Excellent narrative, dark imagery and very descriptive writing. Great juxtaposition of art work to poem theme. The lines that stood out:

Her
Broken
Body bruised
Shattered and used
A life discarded
Wholly disregarded
Blackened, swollen eyes pleading
Lying motionless and bleeding
"Bitch, look what you made me do," he screams
Savage, brutal blows crush her dying dreams

Your poem 'In Silence She Suffers' is an awesome entry in the feelings writing prompt. Good luck in the voting booth. Women need to stand together to stop the cycle of violence.
Missy.

oh thank you so much missy98writer - I truly appreciate your kind words. Yes, violence and abuse in our society is so tragic and the more we "stand together" as you say, is one way we can help to combat this cowardly act. Again, I appreciate your kind comments and rating so very much.

As you say, this abuse is rampant. That we should need shelters for abused women in this day and age is criminal in itself. And it is always her fault in his eyes, she made him do it, not his twisted psyche.

dear Soledadpaz - you are so right - it is a crime in itself that in today's society we still need shelters for abused women. The fact that the abuser always picks the weakest one, the one least likely to be able to fight back - what a coward! Thank you very much for reading my work and for your thoughtful response and rating.

Hello writer,
Your Etheree Poem on feelings is very well done. Your words draw one into this picture of brutality and death.
I especially liked the line, "Bitch, look what you made me do..." This is very true to life. Those who do such deeds usually blame the other person and cannot see that their actions are a result of their own choices. I wish you well in the contest. This poem should do very well.
Cheers, W ^-^

Exactly whizpurr - that is because the abusers are cowards who always choose the weaker ones to hurt. I so appreciate your taking the time to read my work and give such a thoughtful review and lovely rating.

This was once my life, so many years ago. I now advocate daily for our sisters who struggle through this. The perpetrators are sick. My story ended happily with me escaping after 3 years to the arms of a loving father and mother. So many do not have family to fall back on or seek refuge. You did an excellent job of painting a real picture of a sometimes deadly plague on our society today.
The abuse starts earlier now, there are so many teen girls being hit everyday by their boyfriends and their parents have no clue. Time for so many to wake up. Thanks for the message in so few words. Be blessed. Leigh Ann Fine (Survivor)

dear Leigh Ann -I am so sorry to hear that you know about this life firsthand. Thank God for your wonderful family, and yes, you are so right that many do not have anyone they really can turn to for help. It's a tragic situation. I do thank you so much for reading my work and for your very thoughtful and heartfelt comments and lovely rating.
