I truly enjoy your writing. This poem for me, is the best I've read of your work Unfortunately I don't have a 6star left, it certainly deserves it. I have the utmost respect for those in the Armed Forces. Young, old, lifers, whomever. They are the reason we all sleep well at night regardless of the problems in the country. Without them, we'd have no problems, nor would we be the backbone of the earth!!

Your use of simplicity in poetry is almost deceiving that one might think that it is not poetry in any way that we can or could call poetry, but this is a bit off on the side of the truth, for simplicity in poetry is not always bad or bad poetry. Many poets have used this approach to great success.
Keep one writing the way you do but try not to make it so simple that it crosses the line to prose.

With respect, what came to mind was old fishermen never die, they just smell that way! Beautifully written and so true, men give their lives and there are always more to take their places. Sad, but true. We have learnt nothing except the weapons are more sophisticated.

Some very effective turns of phrase here. I particularly like:
"As we look down the farthest side of our forsaken lives"
That line is almost a poem in its own right. Great stuff.

Very well written...love the cartoon with it. Not many these days really care about the veterans, sad to say!!! We are so caught up in our own thing and focused on ourselves, that we forget everyone else!!! Well done!!! :-)

I like your restatement of it here:
Old soldiers never die
We fade away till the next generation is called upon for duty
Yes, all soldiers are "brothers in arms".
If only all soldiers could also be brother's in peace ... now that would be a world I'd like to live in.

The military wouldn't take me in the Viet Nan era. Said my knee was in to bad of shape to be any good to them. I wanted to go in the worst way because my father was one of the first ranger division in ww11. He was with Merrill's Marauders taking control of Burma.
I can feel the depth of your poem for those called to arms. Especially the ones who died on the battlefields.
