Freedom certainly isn't cheap and I don't think many people understand what soldiers go through fighting for our rights and freedom. It's always great to hear about one or just celebrate what they have done for us

very thought provoking.Although I am not the best poetry fan this felt to me as if a real soldier had written it whilst waiting to find out his fate.

Deepwater, you have written very well about the futility of war. The period is 1914 the first world war. Is'nt it?
What evil times has carnage chosen, for judgement on this land, you write in despair? But you have no alternative except to fix your bayonets and fight, maybe a war which is not your concern, but orders have to be obeyed. AmI right? Your verse is well written and very poignant as well. Gooloom

Thank you so much for writing this.
Wars that are not of "this" generation seem to be becoming slowly forgotten; poetry like this helps us remember, helps us appreciate what soldiers did all over the world.
What powerful emotions this evokes.

i guess since poetry means something different to different people this poem can have a lot of significance to the many people who have no idea that 10 or 11 billion were killed in world war one.

PS I didn't know you were that old.

I must say, "WOW" to your poetry. I was not disappointed with this poem. This is another one of your poems that makes me feel honored to have men and women in my family who have fought for this country. Excellent poem.

Absolutely a well written poem with powerful sentiment. I may be wrong but should it be "has carnage" instead of "have"? Really the word choices and phrasing are compelling. Loved it.
