She was one hardy lady. War makes you that way. It seems the more we endure the wiser we are and are able to cope with so many more injustices. Your gram was one feisty lady and probably taught you a great deal about life and how to cherish it. She will be gone but her memories will last forever.

deepwater,

this was a tremendous tribute to a wonderful lady, your gram. While at that time, '30-'45, she may not have realized the history she was liviing through==or creating. Wonderful job, my friend.

Hi GW,

I love this poem about your Gram. I have fond memories of both my grandmothers and was sad when they died. They too endured hardships unheard of today. This is a well written and glowing tribute to your Gram. Well done....chey

deepwater,
I'm impressed by your poetry. Your observations and writhing is brilliant. I love your narrative voice. This poem is well written. Great title 'Dear old Gram.' The old photo you included is fabulous. I especially liked the lines:

A prisoner of war she learned to endure
The heartaches and tyrannies of man
Slaves kept on hand, injustice occupied her land
She lived through this time for us all.

I for one admire the older folks and I love listening to their tales of the past. Another wonderful poem you've offered you readers. Thanks. . .Melissa.

I know an old German couple that survived Hitler. The horror stories that the tell of that time. They say they are afraid for America because they see our country doing the same things that Hitler did in the present administrations actions.

I enjoyed your ode to your grandmother.

Thank You My Friend,

Knowledge

Her life, captured in these wonderfully written lines, are an inspiration to those of us who have never faced so many challenges or heartaches.
Excellent. I am glad to know her a little better.

Again, Deepwater, I like your work. You cherish the same things I cherish. I bet our politics are different, but in being different we somehow always remain the same.

Great poetry,
Pea

deepwater,

In your unique writing style you transfer your memories and emotions to the reader and make him feel the pain of war and the joy at its end.
