I thoroughly enjoyedyour exploration around the concept of happiness and what it means. I also thought your piece was well constructed, posing the questions, quoting some personal observations, presenting your thoughts, and ending with a summary.
The incident in the park was an excellent choice of image to illustrate your point. I also liked the idea that the two people were not only enjoying their own happiness, but in doing so, giving happiness to others.
I haven't read any other entries in this contest, but I would imagine this will be a strong contender. (Didn't spot any nits either.)
Good luck with it - and much happiness!

A nice description of 'realism': he who has eternity has truly won the game.
Your story has a professional looking format and font. Your narrative flowed very well and holds the attention of the reader quite charismatically. So...
Well done, and good luck in this contest.

You are on the right path when you say, "...a balanced life is a successful life." You fall sort by not explaining fully what you consider a balanced life: "love of self, love of others and the desire to make your little part of the world a better place to live." Good luck in your contest.

Thank you so much. I believe we individually must decide what is a balanced life with our particular talents and surroundings. Your "love of self, love of others and the desire to make your little part of the world a better place to live" meets the challenge in my view. I might say: the knowledge that God knows no conditions, that I am a part of the universal God, and as such, I have the responsibility of working toward loving unconditionally --and all the nuances that go with that challenge. That's an essay in and of itself. However, you summed it up nicely in your statement.

    thanks for reading.

Good ideas and well organized. I would add that a positive, healthy balance is also needed. This writing is food for thought, and you've brought out the main points with good examples. Good writing.

If I had a six, it certainly would be yours and then some. We all were given something called free will, but more importantly we all have common sense, which helps us through life to find balance.

Exception piece of writing from a creative author who has clearly mastered the art of writing.

Thank you very much. The thought of a 6 feels almost as good as a 6. I appreciate.

I enjoyed reading your essay, and agree that it certainly is complicated! Your example of the grandmother and grandchild was spot on. You really painted a joyful picture.

Good luck in the contest,
Sandy

I like this philosophycal look at who decides on winners in the world, and the criteria that they use.
You examine a few criterias.
As you say we all desire to be winners but for me the definition, 'Money will buy me a house, but not a home etc'
Winning - a elusive goal if defined by someone else's standards but when we set our own goals and achieve them in whatever sphere of life - I believe that constitutes a winner.
An unusual but charming look at what constitutes a winner.

Writer,

Perfect...You simply took the lady of justice with her scales and made us se that the same applies to our lives as well. Finding the key to balancing all the elements of life is what makes the winner.

Gret job!

I can imagine you sitting outside observing all this, I have done this several times and enjoy it immensely. Very nice and light read. Are we winners ... of course we are in all shapes and forms, but do we know it? That is another thing!

What a great essay to start my day. Much of the winner and loser discussion reminds me of the ridiculous nine step program in Little Miss Sunshine. Your well-written piece raised the idea of winning in life to a new level. I liked the beginning paragraphs especially the people in the part - loved the look-alike dog. I also enjoyed the
Zig-Ziglar quote. I hope your story is a winner. It's a good one.
