Brooke - belatedly adding my compliments and comments to yet another lovely and humorous piece of verse - which will be tail of line in doing so, no doubt - paints lovely picture of - four cargo ships lumbering from skies, swooping, scooping up fresh fish supplies, truly wonderful bird pelican, whose beak holds more than his belly can - regards Brad.

Hi Brooke What a fun poem, with a nice flow to it. We don't see pelicans in our part of the world. My daughter lives in Perth and when I visit I also find them fascinating to watch. Cheers Gaye

I just love this one. I see the pelicans every morning dining on fresh fish, fighting over them too. Very nice job with this one. Definitely made me smile.

Brown pelicans are among my favorite birds. Although, they are the Louisiana State Bird, when I was growing up there, Louisiana had to import them. (DDT had killed out the local birds.) Of course, they came back and were one of the bird success stories for Louisiana -and the nation. I think they were just taken off the endangered list in the last few weeks. Now, that awful, awful oil spill again threatens the LA population.

Anyway, lovely poem that brought back many memories of watching them fish in the Gulf.

Ann, those oil spills are just so maddening. Thanks so much for your most thoughtful review :-) Brooke

Brooke, I very much enjoyed your pelican tale. Four pelicans in a row would be an impressive sight. I can't believe they manage to launch themselves at all, considering their size. Kelly

Thank you, Kelly :-) I know, on land they look so awkward, but in formation in the sky they are truly elegant :-) Brooke

Superb.
Your poem flew like the pe in flight and made excellent reading. Your poetic eye saw the beauty of the site and your gourmet taste spoke of their nice brunch. However, my seaman's eye tells me when four birds are in line, one will be in the lead and three behind. It can't be otherwise.
The second line is obvious and redundant.

Thank you, Ramarao - I realize the second line does not add information - I thought it added to the comic effect. Brooke :-)

They are so entertaining, a little clumsy and a little awkward, but magnificent in the air and catching those fish.
Excellent rhymes and lines, and a cute story.

Thanks, Skye - they actually look elegant once they're flying, but what funny creatures :-) Brooke

Great visualization of these strange looking birds flying around in search of their next meal.

Loved the rhyming scheme and the flow and rhythm.

I think I'll change your name from Poet Queen to Poet Goddess.

Absolutely fun and pleasant reading. You made nature sound as elegant as it should, as I go to Tanzania every 18 months and have seen many things I would have cringed at on tv before, and now only find the natural beauty in the life cycle all around us. You have made that life cycle fun, clear, and sophisticated. Great job!

Pelicans hold a special place in my heart -- they were my dad's favorite bird. He could sit forever and watch them dive for fish. This one also reminds me of his quirky sense of humor. Aside from memories evoked, your rhymes are clever, witty and oh, so fitting. Smooth flow throughout, and I totally enjoyed it, all three times I've read it! D

He was one of the good guys -- though we fought like cats and dogs as I was growing up. Alzheimer's slowly stole him away. D
