An interesting and well crafted
thought where the wisdom of one
generation is not written in words
of the poet, but transferred by
voice from one generation to the
next, with the only book, that
which is retained in the recesses
of the mind.
What a thought provoking piece of
writing.
Well done

Excellent piece of work that really makes people think. It invites the reader to ponder the state of things and ask? What can I do to make things better for others. I find no errors or mistakes. Good job. FF

It is a worry. Does the generation repsect us enough to carry it on to their sons? You have a good thought provoking poem with good imagery here. So true too. Keep it up.

You indeed have deep waters. I like your tractor and my daughter would too. I am trying to pass to my children stories from their grandmother so they won't be lost. I like the essence of your poem and how it conveys that message. ann

Hessiod said (about 800 b. c.)
"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly 'wise' and impatient of restraint."

foreword [forward]

I found this quote a long time ago. Think it pertains in a way to what you say here, and what I feel:
I think the youth of the twenty first century read in text format and hear only ipods.

Pat.

Odd timing to be reading your poem. My brother and I were recently talking about things that our Grandparents told us or showed us, and we never wrote them down. Such a shame and such a loss of true knowledge.

deepwater,

"To all unwritten things" was a wonderfully written writing poem. I especially enjoyed the artwork you supplied with the piece.

I so regret all the parts of my family's history that are totally lost because nobody wrote them down - I know next to nothing about most of my ancestors, which is one of the reasons I write, so that will not be true for my children and grandchildren and great grandchildren - I want them to know about me and my parents and the times we lived in. You address a most significant question to me. Brooke
