In many cultures, there is the tradition of passing along stories for centuries, as family members tell the youngsters about their history. (I read about this in AlaskaStory's book "Spirit Basket" which describes this tradition among native Alaskans, and found the book fascinating.) In our culture, I think it is a lost art. Most of us are so busy with our electronic gadgets and televisions, we have no time for talking. Your poem is so thought-provoking and well written. I enjoyed it very much.

This is a piece of poetic thinking that is very wise. It asks a question that needs to be. I really enjoy reading intelligent poetic thinking such as you wrote here. This was just a delight to have read and written a review for... John

It's sad that the oral traditions of years
past are not as prevalent as they once were.
Hopefully, somewhere, families still share
stories of their past. Nice thoughtful poem.
Thanks for sharing.

It seems like those things are getting lost in the last few generations. There isn't the respect for the older generations any more. Great job.

You're a very deep guy deepwater. I really like this poem. It's meaningful, good verse, no spag, no typos, great presentation and the picture you chose relates and frames the piece nicely. Good job. Thank you for sharing your art with us.

There will always be the ones who share, who make sure that history is recorded, either verbal or written, so your poem is thoughtful, pushing for that to occur.
I love it. It asks the right questions.
Well done.

Nicely said and much to think about. My mother has saved so many letters, detailing the adventures of our family and talking about the happenings of the time. This generation certainly writes all the time (texting and e-mail) but it is not saved. Even oral stories that have been told over and over again are becoming extinct as we all become plugged in, together in a space but living separately.
You gave us much to ponder. Thanks for sharing.

Good job. This is a well written poem that ask a very thought provoking question. Unfortunately, the answer most likely will be no.

Thanks for sharing this.

deepwater,

Too bad, but much of folklore, history, and family ancestry is lost because no one writes it and no one bothers to inform upcoming generations. Nice thoughts.

This is a timely poem and you have presented strong images, drawing on emotions - will this generation pass the secrets of our forefathers foreward... - good question. I would recommend it. Pat Crandall
