I am so happy I found this series by you. I don't know if you are following Peter@Poole's recent writings. He is writing of the days of farming that he and his wife did. I look forward to each post complete with pictures.

This is an excellent poem! I'd read in another poet's work about one state trying to get the history books changed to make some things that have happened in this country sound acceptable and watered down from the truth. Your poem reminds me very much of that with your line, "will this generation pass the secrets of our forefathers forward." I hope that we do, because we have to know what the mistakes were before we are able to learn from them and change. I also love your reference to the age-old art of verbal story-telling and its importance to us today as sometimes these stories are the only way for us to know about the past.
I find this poem to be a terrific work. Great job!

never to be written in books or carved on stone
will this generation pass the secrets of our forefathers forward
to be carried over to their sons?
Cleaver theme and point you make that we need to pass on our history through family tradition, stories, and even recipes. I feel we learn through our history. You're a very talented writer and this fabulous free verse proves it. I feel it's a pleasure to read your poetry and writing. . .Melissa.

I like this because...I think they will because many lost civilizations that are now lost have left their mark by passing down stories from father to son like the American Indians for one. A well written piece with a good visual and intriguing idea behind an emotional reality. This piece is inspiring with impeccable words and most creative.

I doubt if my grandmother could ever have written down all the stories she has told, yet I remember them all and could possibly write a book about them.
I believe just as I was read all the wonderful, and colorful stories of my grandmother, they will be kept in the family as I read them to my children, and my grandchildren.
Throughout some African communities, and also Caribbean communities, much of their history is passed down through history by the story teller..
With all the electronics that is available very little will be lost, but the story tellers will still be present, the history comes to life through the story tellers of old..
Many are still among us, Still viable...
