deepwater,
Excellent poem you've written. Cleaver use of hyperbole with the phrase 'fields of stone.' Beautiful art work and presentation. Excellent imagery, good rhymes and very descriptive writing. Great title 'Fields of stone.' I especially like the lines:

For he alone forgives our sins
And he returns us to our kin
Or leaves us to lie in fields far away
So just believe and hold to faith
For you may see him on this day
Fields of stone remember us all
We are the ones, who made the call
As fields of stone remember the past
The names of the fallen will always last

Thanks for sharing your fabulous spiritual poem. . . Melissa!

I liked the "fields of stone metaphor.

I especially liked your last stanza:Fields of stone remember us all
We are the ones, who made the call
As fields of stone remember the past
The names of the fallen will always last

Hi GW,

This a good poem especially since Memorial day approaches. The title speaks to the many grave stones that indicate where a soldier lays. My husband served in Korea so this poem really speaks to me. I think you should cap the word God and the several 'He' words. Well done....chey

Very good rhyming and slant rhyming, combined with good flow very much enhance your powerful message, which it sounds like , really does come from the heart. This poem makes me think that I don't have a clue of half of what goes on in this world every day.
Thanks for a strong read - Cally :)

Oh, what a sorrowful piece
of verse, Gary, and of course,
what makes it so is that it
is true to life, and so many
don't come back - leaving widows
and orphans... and those who do
come back are often hurting from
deep within.

I've just written Is This Glory,
as my eyes fill and my mother's
heart breaks each time I see another
soldier come home in a coffin.

So take hold of god his anchor firm - God
As he controls - He - Cap each time you refer to God/He

Well penned, my friend.
Margaret.

There is nothing romatic about a field of graves. Young men had their lives ripped assunder, leaving their loved ones behind. You're poem is very well written with good imagery and descriptive schemes.

Your poem Fields of Stone is excellent. Well written and clear to read, a soldier must leave his home, his life, wishing to return but knowing he may end up in the fields of stone. War is hell.
Peace, Joan

I can just imagine how hard it must be to have to leave your family and go off to war. Never knowing if you will see them again. Very good piece.

Your poem is filled with strong, loving images of beauty, of family, life, and the pain of separation.
Well crafted, memorable.
Very well done.
