This is a well structured and free flowing emotional poem, which has great rhythm, although the rhyme seems a little inconsistent. But due to the topic and the emotions, this does not detract from the poem.
Warmest regards, Marijke

Hi deepwater,
I like how you used storm and winds, and then switched it to fields of stone. An enjoyable read which held my interest.

Although, there is some punctuation I'd like to see in this verse, I like it very much. Maybe it is because in my 27 years in the military, I walked thru many fields of stone, jungles and such never knowing if that is where I would stay. Yes, I like it.

A haunting rendition of the heartwrenching bravery of one leaving all he holds dear - knowing full well he may never return. You have captured the aching knowledge of uncertainty with the line 'returns us to our kin, or leaves us to lie in fields far away.' Repetition of the phrase 'fields of stone' reinforces the stark reality of an end not within our control, and the permanency of the result of that decision to go. This poem reminds me of the beaches of Normandy, and the row upon row of stones marking the last resting place of all those brave young men who left all they held dear, venturing forth in courage, with faith, and all the tears that have washed those stones over the years. Very moving.

This reminds me of my last visit to Fort Stewart, Georgia. My significant other was preparing to go on his 3rd tour of duty in Iraq. I haven't seen him since and that was 3 three years ago. He returned physically but not mentally.

War is indeed a scary thing, and I, for one, wish we could have peace in our world. My prayers are with all those brave men and women who leave their nests of safety to defend us.

This is a well written poem that sounds like a prayer for protection from a caring God. The rhymes are also very well done with good rhythm.A great tribute to fallen heroes. kudos

This is a touching treatment of the last day of leave when one must return to active duty. Sometimes I see some of these real soldiers leaving, and it heartrending. Best wishes, Jeanie Mercer

Is a beautiful tribute to our Soldiers, no, they will never be forgotten, is because of them that there is still liberty in this land, but we have to remember that as they fight for liberty, we too mus fight for that same liberty that is in so much danger right now.
