Brooke,

this was a beautiful writing, my friend. Great descriptives and so gentle -- so peaceful it was a pleasure to read. Well done.

adewpearl,
Very appealing and inspirational. The title made me anticipate--and I was rewarded by the reading. "A calla lily's sculptured swirl" is my favorite line!! elaine

Your poem feels like spring, Brooke. There is something hopeful in its lines. I enjoyed the way you brought all the senses into the lines. :) Lovely.

I too like the rhyme scheme and might try it. The rhyme scheme seems to feel more like the rhythm you might find in a song. The imagery and details in the poem have a sensory feel to them, and I especially like the line, 'the calla lily's scupltured swirl.' I can smell the flower now. ann

Brooke,

I understand what you mean about this rhyme scheme being appealing. I think it's definitely one that lends an interesting flavor to your poem. It's as if the rhymes are not going to connect and that third line is just hanging there, and suddenly it's "brought home" by line six's rhyme. Pretty cool.

I thinks this is a very pretty poem. The picture goes well with it, because it has the fantasy-whimsy of the rainbow and slightly unreal scenery. I like your word choices, such as the rhyme of arc and meadowlark. My favorite line is, "A calla lily's sculptured swirl," not only because it has a nice sound and flow to it, but also because the calla lily is my favorite!

Great work on this different poetry form. I'm sure I'll see more:-)

Thank you, Teresa - I have not yet written another one in this form - the rhyming is far more difficult in this pattern - the calla lily sure is beautiful, isn't it? Brooke :-)

I fell in love with the calla lily after (strange but true) watching a moving episode of the tv show "Quantum Leap". Sam's best friend Al's wife had believed Al was dead in Viet Nam. When he finally came home from the POW camp, she had moved on, throwing him into a life of debauchery because he never found love again. Sam refused to let Al tell his wife he was alive while they were in her time, because it wasn't the mission. Later, Sam made a deal with God that he would stay trapped as a leaper, doing good, if he could go back to that moment and let Al's wife know that he was alive and coming home, thereby changing history and meaning he and Al would never meet. Her favorite flower was the calla lily. I fell in love with the look of them, and I especially love the ones that are a lavendar shade.

Long explanation - I know! LOL!

Hi Brooke,

A pretty poem, with a pattern that shakes things up from the norm but is identifiable to settle into if your like me and like the rhyming aspect of poems. I think this worked well.

The imagery was the best part of this, giving the scenes with a hint of a prayer to be able to share them, making them all the more memorable with the reminder that time is keeping time.

I liked it.
