This is a first for me. I have never
seen an ottava rima. This is so fabulous
and the imagery is so descriptive it
leaves one with a perfect picture in
their mind of what you speak of. I cannot
believe how that picture is so perfect
for your poem. What a fantastic portrayal
you have done with words and artwork.

Reading this poem kind of felt like playing rock hop, which each hop led to the next thought, in a fun game. The final two lines led to the grand finale, the waited for destination, and I heard clapping in my head. I enjoyed reading this. And I only got confused cause I thought it was closer to may than I was prepared. I hoped right on through april enjoying the poem, and realized... oh, its not near may yet.

Thank you, Turtle. May is my favorite month - I tend to get ready for it before the rest of the world has caught up to me. LOL Brooke :-)

Lovely poem in honor of Spring. I've seen these beauties of nature and appreciate the picture you've drawn with your words. The picture is awesome also.

You make us work.
The images are good, but you vocabulary is greater than mine.
I had to look up blithe and fete - the thing that came to mind was feta cheese and that didn't fit very well LOL.

To get rid of the "When" that starts two of the lines, you could change the one in line 3 to "While"

Thank you, Douglas - yes, I rarely write about cheese. LOL You are most kind :-) Brooke

Brooke,

What an excellent poem for introducing the spring we all are anticipating with great joy. I think you've hit the nail on the head with the line, "I know the celebration's underway." Your ottava rima hits the iambic pentameter perfectly. I didn't find any questionable syllable accents at all. The rhyme scheme also works well without the need to reach for words just to make a rhyme. You are the rhyme guru! :-) My favorite technical aspect of this poem is the alliteration. You have really done a great job using that alliteration to tie everything together and to give this poem a nice read aloud.

I am glad to always read the author's notes, especially when the writer has given a bit of background or some definitions. In this case, I would probably have thought a, "Johnny-Jump-Up was something you put your baby n and hang them from the door frame so they can play, jump, and swing. LOL

My favorite line in the poem is one that I think has incredible descriptive qualities. "Whose waters burble by with blithe content," gives the reader the sounds and sites, and also the sense of lazy days.

Great work on this poem!

Teresa

Teresa, thank you :-) As always, I appreciate your attention to the details of my composition - when I spend lots of time working on alliteration, for instance, it is lovely to know someone notices it :-) Brooke

This poem shares the warmth of tone of the poet, the author notes are also of great help. The flow was worthy.
I know the celebration's underway
to fete creation's best, the month of May.[ Liked them]

A charming poem about the joys of springtime as expressed in the natural world. It is freezing where I live. Snowing too. Yikes! This rhyme will give me a taste to anticipate.

So glad you enjoyed - I think it should be illegal that you have snow in April :-) Thank you! Brooke :-)

May does bring us a mixture of things when it comes to nature. Dogwood trees are so pretty and I like how they sometimes line the outside of the woods. Another poem worth the read.

Brooke, Isn't the internet amazing? In less than a minute I was able to view both the lovely pink dogwood and the winking Johnny-Jump-Up. A lovely tribute to the coming of May. Cheers, Kelly

I'm always amazed when reviewers say to me - gee, I wish I could see such and such a bird or flower, as if they honestly don't know about googling. I'm so glad you enjoyed your look at these beauties :-) Brooke
