A nursery fantasy, at that. This is adorable
and so welcome for the holiday. I can just
picture this dog going from one to the other
chocolate piece, munching his way through a
pile. How cute is the picture you paint.
The artwork is terrific and compliments
your poem to the tee. What a cute remembrance
of an Easter gone to the dogs.

Thank you for noting no chocolate for dogs. Must admit, this is an apt description of a chocoholic!

Best to you,

Nigai

Good rhyme scheme, fun to read. Very funny idea. You found a good way of conveying this story. Not too long, I thought it was going to be before I read it.

This is a humerous and fun Easter poem. It can be a tradition to read this. I like the theme of the dog eating the eggs and a chocolate dog is found. Great rhyming and verses.

I can visualize this puppy getting into the candy and having a ball--and probably a mean tummy ache later
smiles,

When the sun rises in the morning
The kids search behind a log
Instead of Easter eggs they find
One chocolate coated dog!

Marijke, this is lovely fun... but I am so pleased that you have added your note... some folk would be daft enough, I am sure. Pat.

Thank you Pat. I didn't know about the choccie problem with dogs, but dog lovers on this site soon advised me - thus the warning. Warmest regard, Marijke

fionageorge,

Well chosen words are expressive. The theme is strong. The rhyming was well done. Your feelings are expressed well.

It's a very clean piece. I saw no SPAG and no typos.

I look forward to seeing you again.

Love you,

Oatmeal

LOL - what a cute poem.

Thank you so much for your notes and the warning. Chocolate (spelled chocoalte in the 3rd sentence of your notes) usually causes seizures in dogs and often kills them.

However, very early one Easter morning, my dog Angel went around to everyone's basket when we were visiting friends with children. She stole the chocolate bunnies!

So, my dear, you could have written this poem for my Angel, gone so many years, but in your poem and my heart!

Hi, so pleased you enjoyed this little Easter poem. I enjoyed penningit. Poor Angel, I hope it wasn't the chocolate that caused her demise. Pleased it brought back sweet memories of Angel. Warmest regards and hugs, Marijke

Sadly, she was only 5 when I lost her to a sudden outbreak of tumors...I think it was a reaction to eating a full pack of birth control pills.

Anyway, the bunny incident happened a few years before...

I guess she was destined for a short life. I later had a Belgian Sheepdog - Jackie. She was born in my hands and died in my arms 15 and 1/2 years later. Some say animals do not come back, but I swear it was the same dog spirit, allowing us the time we missed earlier...and even at that, it wasn't long enough...

Hey Marijke what a delightful thought this is,, I can see the doggy sitting behind the log, all bloated and covered in chocky.. very cute connotation I assure you, and great authors notes to inform anyone that chocs and dogs in abundance are not a wise move.. I used to give my doggy dog chocolate, they were carob button, and you know what, they were yummy.. I used to share them with him.. not nearly as rich as our carob.. and you know < i never did grow a tail and bark... I consider myself rather lucky Marijke... but the neighbours thought I was nuts.
hugs for a wonderful easter poem Marijke, luv and smiles from this nutty fruitloop, luv Melxxxx

Hi Mel, thank you so much for your lovely words. I enjoyed writing this, my imagination went into overdrive. I wasn't aware that doggies and choccies don't mix, until quite a few reviewers told me so, and I was advised to put the warning in. And being the obedient and responsible person I am, I did.
Were the doc choccies really yummy? Or are you having me on? Maybe it is just a falacy that choccies and doggies don't mix. If doggie choccies can make humans bark, perhaps all those people fear that their doggies might start talking - and tell them what they really think of them.
I think I am losing the plot, Mel. Better sign off before I write anything else silly!
Warmest regards, hugs and smiles, and lots of choccies, Mel.

Hey Marijke, that is so funny, you could be right about some doggies telling their owners what they really think of them. and I am sure doggies dont lie either nor hold back in being forthcoming. Yes doggy chockies are really yummy. they were just like carob button. just not as sweet and rich. do you know what carob tastes like. I actually prefer it to real chocolate, which is not my favourite sweet at all, barely ever eat the stuff. but I did used to go, here, a bite for me and the rest for you, when I shared these doggy treats with my dog.. he loved them almost as much as me.. I gave the dry dog food a miss though, not so yummy, though I did try it once . hugs to you, Luv Melxxxxxxx

Love this! I love the meter and rhyme, and the light innocence of the words just made it fun! As for the dog eating the chocolate, our dog has the knack of finding the eggs before the kids do! Six stars for the fun and the smiles!

Thank you for a great read!
