This poem renders Jesus' words to his Apostles in a simple manner with a grave tempo which adds soberness to this rispetto. I noted this stanza as having a magic power of its own even before reaching the moment of washing the feet of the Apostles.
"He took His followers aside
to bid them, "By My words abide --
through lives of love bring hate's defeat"

Hullo Brooke ....
This is not only well written but also a pleasure to read. You have simply recounted the story of how Our Lord washed the feet of His Apostles to teach, by His Own example, what we should be willing to do for others - those close to us and those who may well be strangers.
I enjoyed this and thank you for sharing it with us.
With love from ... Nanette Mary.

This is such a heart-warming reminder of the scripture. It is not always to love others as He loved us but if we are to serve Him properly, we have to at least try. Great poem composed with a great rhyming scheme and a lot of emotion.

Excellent Easter piece. While newspapers are filled with all the hate being spewed by so-called "Christian" militias and abortion foes and every other extremist group, it is nice to be reminded we were told to love one another, turn the other cheek and forgive those who sin against us. Great poem. ann

Thank you, Ann - I hope you had a wonderful Easter. I cry at the thought of those people making religion seem hateful to so many people who do not understand they do not represent me at all. Brooke

Well done. A lesson and a message all wrapped into a most excellent poem. Completed with the authors notes is the finishing touch. Many would suppose that all knew of thwat which ye spake, yet those among us would know better. There are many factions of people that join us in the land of Fanstoria and a lesson learned is of great value. So again I say, well done, most excellent. Have a Happy Easter. Mike

A lovely tribute to Jesus. As a Southerner, it brought back memories of the old fashioned foot washings we would have.
Thank you for sharing it with us.

Brooke:
The butterfly you selected is almost as
beautiful as the Maundy Thursday rispetto
you have written for our Lord. Somehow I
did not know the butterfly was a symbol of
the resurrection but I felt like going,
"Well, Duh!" when I read it. Thanks for
sharing this wonderful message with us. If
we would but one or two days a week truly
love others as He has loved us, what a better
world this would be. love, jan

Brooke, it's beautiful. I don't care about Maundy Thrusday, but I certainly like your poem. Love the rhyme, but that last sentence blew me away. He certainly did that, and I guess from readings, that this was the most humble act there was.
You do such a great job with the rispetto. What more can I say. pat

Oh, Brooke, this is a truly beautiful poem! The poem itself is great- the rhyming wondrful but the message is what really struck me- the example we should live by. Excellent writing!
