This is very creative in its wording, and it's filled with wonderful imagery. It is a happy little quatrain, and now I'm looking so forward to real spring!

At last! The spring has come and I hear the poet sing her songs of joy. Winter is done, and Adewpearl thaws and drips gently to the awakening earth. How wonderful is this welcome to spring! Yay. Short, but sweet, and I'll bet oh, so sincere. Rose.

Your poem definitely gives us a taste of the joy of the coming spring. You've given some really nice alliteration, "espied shoots sprout," "petals of purple," and the combination in the last two lines of the s and w sounds. The word, "espied," while it fits the meaning, seems a little out of place. By that I mean it seems quite formal compared to the joyful moods of the rest of the poem. Beautiful visual presentation! Great work as always!

thanks so much, Teresa, for your attention to my word choices. I thought "espied" sounded the total opposite, a playful word when I hear it. It's always lovely to hear from you. Brooke :-)

I made a trip to San Juan Capistrano just to see the swallows return. Brooke, it was an awesome sight. One that I have not or will ever forget. I did this trip back in 1992.
You're right this is one happy quatrain............jim

Hi Brooke, I love this poem and can relate even better since I spent all day planting flowers and plants. I love flowers and especially growing my own. I had forgotten that Spring is finally here. As always, a beautiful poem and extremely well written, my friend. Patti :)

I am espying the weeds caused by those same birds. But the beautiful flower they bring make up for the pretty horrible weeds and save the boids from a beebee in their heads.
