I like the suggestion that death waits patiently, for those who will not live their life calmly.
The endless hurry sends the victims straight into his arms.
Meanwhile he patiently waits; smiling.

This is a nice piece with a nice poetic diction. It is not easy to understand what the poem is all about, but that does not detract from the fact that it is a good work of art. kudos

Thanks for a nice review. If U want to know what a poem is about, never ask the author! LOL

I'm with you ... slow is the way to go. It is rather a drab and dreary thought that the reaper hovers among us. A fact we can't escape, though.

Victor, your poetry is always a joy to read, and even though this one is a bit dark, it is a remarkable piece. You've given us something to think about, and I always like that. Bravo!

Hi Victor, great poem, great write, so true.. I have learned to control my mind on this worry thing.. I alway say to myself, why worry when you can pray.. My belief in God and that He has my back. Then my worry becomes trust.. Love Lin

Well done.

I loved the last lines:

'Tis just his lot

to reap from us

the ones with endless hurry.

Love the play on reap/reaper and this idea of death's patience and how all of our "hurrying" will never out run it.

Well done.

What a super little poem, and how much you pack into it!
I specially liked the alliteration on "scythe" and "smiles" (and assonance, come to that), plus that similarity of shape, one conjuring the image of the other.
What a comforting end line too! So sitting here, chilling and having fun is really good for me. Hoorayyyy...
Great flow on top of all that - I enjoyed it very much indeed.

The scene is stark, the description is very good, and the advice.. excellent.
Slow down or he will come to get you, too.
I love this. Excellent.

I like the alliteration in this poem and the strong visual of the grim reaper with his scythe smiling as he collects the souls of A-type personalities who worry and scurry their way to heart attacks and strokes. Good flow and strong rhyme also. Brooke :-)

Thank U. Boy, if hurry and scurry don't bring the rat race image up, I don't know what will. I promised myself (well, a lot of things, really) that I wouldn't make the same mistake of all the farmers that I grew up around. I wouldn't just work, get fat, get drunk, and die of a heart attack in my 50's. Actually, now, with all of the awareness of heart attack causes, the generic farmer has changed quite a bit (for him). I'm a type A, worries, has too much stress, and isn't listening to his inner child. Although, he's screaming.

this poem has a very good poetic point to its thoughts. I liked the picture as well as the thoughts projected here. It was just a delight to have read and written a review for... John
