Oh how sweet. I love your story. How great you still feel that way about your wife. You are both so lucky. I hope you both have a great Valentines Day. Good luck in the contest. Shirley

This is a great love story very beautifully told. The events you described are not extraordinary, but the mode of narration added a pep that heightened it. You missed the ending quotation mark after the proposal proper. kudos

I enjoyed seeing the lead, Lynie from your perspective. How how much you loved her, by details. (her black dress, heels; perfume). The dialogue was smooth flowing, sensual and seductive that kept the love aspect alive. (Kissing in Limo, hugs, cuddling etc.) The first surprise, Geja's Cafe, where the decorum of violin music enhanced the love mood. The imagery was easy to follow in my mind.
Surprise number two, Bill knelt on his knee for the marriage proposal. Lynie accepted the 1/2 carat engagement ring. However, the real surprise was that Lynie was in a wheelchair. It was an unexpected twist in the story that made me want to clap with the crowd. Your story goal was met. The story, At Last was believable Romance fiction suited for a Valentine's Entry. I would recommend it to my friends. No adverse comments.

What a wonderful story. If your wife hasn't heard the words you felt on that special night, now could be a good time to wrap this story up in a Valentine card. Somehow, I think she already has heard them many times.

Happy Valentine's Day to you both.

Jean K.

Perfect timing to propose on Valentine's Day and a perfectly sweet little tale of romance. Only one adverb (finally), you have certainly stuck to your guns in that regard. Full stop needed after melody in my heart, as if that matters all that much. Always a smooth read and an impeccable style, oodles of it! It is a joy to read again that keyboard dance you do.

You know, Bob, you always capture the critical emotions and details of a scene. I love hearing it from the male perspective especially how nothing else mattered except those moments with her. From a female perspective, it sometimes surprises me to hear that men experience the same sentimentality as women. I don't mean to sound like a curmudgeon, but each time I hear a man describing a moment with a woman he loves in such romantic and sensory detail, it's a delight and a surprise.

A beautiful story and especially love the author's notes. Didn't realize you've only been married for eleven years.

Hope that you're well.
Merle

Ah, this is absolutly the most romantic love story! I thought it was wonderful and tender and so emotional. The characters are so real and clear. Crisp writing and smooth dialogue make this story flow beautifully along. I really enjoyed this flash fiction love story-happy endings are the best :) Good luck in the contest, Dana

Wow, this is a classic romantic tale, Bob. You must have had a wonderful time in the sun, my friend. :>) The perfect proposal scenario is described here and reminds the rest of of us blundering bumbling oafs how lucky we were to succeed with our chosen mates given our imperfect goofy efforts.

Good tale; well told...warm fuzzy stuff. Best wishes in the competition.
