when its beams set each crystal to gleaming
and each ice-covered branch is aglow,

that line is awesome brooke!

it is then I awake from my dreaming
to partake of this mystical show.

nice follow up. indeed it seems and is a mystical show huh? gotta love poets who see things as such. how could that be anything other than interesting or cool to consider upon a reading? and how lovely to wake from a dream to a mystical show. i would like to live inside this poem for a day i think.

When the snow in the wind starts aswirling

look at you go with aswirling! i love it! creative application.

till

maybe you can help me with this, lol, nice huh, im reviewing you asking for help, but you likely know and i don't, but I use 'til in that situation, the situation where till or 'til means the same as until. i use 'til because the apostrophe replaces the letters u and n, but i am not even sure if you can use one apostrophe to replace two letters, but anyway, point is i guess, i see a lot using the till, and to me that is tilling a field, and until doesn't have two 'L's, so maybe the more i think about it i should just look the word up, hahaa. probably says like, 'see until', lol. anyway, moving on...

the sky is a flurry of white,

nice, not sure if you mean snow or clouds; likely snow, but cool either way, a flurry of white, i like phraseology like that; fresh, creative, never heard it yknow. new imagery is always a blessing (like your portfolio which ive been enjoying this morning verily).

when the stars become lost in the whirling

that's my favorite line right there brooke, totally awesome.

and the trees soon are hid from my sight,

nice, nice.

it is then back in bed I'll be curling
to keep warm for the rest of the night.

beautiful brooke, and what a pleasure to read out loud.
you're such a poet, lol, i love it. you like never mess anything up and everything is entertaining and or creative and or funny and or profound and even sometimes you're all that at once in a poem, and i think you can pick and choose when and where all that or some of that gets applied. i wonder if anyone ever reviews you in a way that does you good, lol, or if you need any reviewing. im sure you've found tons of help on this site like the rest of us but you just don't seem to need it. if there is something you'd like focused on or any areas at all where you are hoping for commentary, like i like to hear spag tips, not that you need them from what i can tell, but then if i could tell i wouldn't like to hear spag tips, lol, so take my text with four and a half grains of low iodine salt, but it feels weird not to try to help in a review. but what can i do? i love this poem as is. you rock, your port rocks, this poem rocks, what you said about jarlsbane on his profile page was very kind and sweet and i hope with the hope of unending universes that your day treats you like your poetry treats us...with care, dedication, entertainment, smiles, thoughts and things to ponder, and clearly with love.

Much to my delight I read a poem frosted in snowy white. I treasure for sure, a keepsake too, I am glad I read this poem writ by you. Okay, so I'm a little rusty, I have been working every night for what seems like a month. I do have a couple things to post, almost. I hope you were able to shovel out and get to the post office. See ya round the neighborhood, sis. Mike

Thank you, Mike - sorry to take so long to get back to you. Happy Valentine's Day. I finally managed to get out yesterday after management sent over a maintenance guy with a pick axe to get rid of a huge pond of ice that formed at my entranceway. Ugh. LOL Brooke :-)

Happy Valentine's day to you too sis. I hope you have a nice day and a box of chocolates. Or give them to the guy with the axe that came to the damsels rescue. Mike

I enjoyed your poem. It is lovely. I think you got your message across in a delightful way. The words flowed. Since I am stuck in over two feet of snow it was great to envision it in another way.

How can something so incredibly beautiful be written by someone so tired of this beautiful season? LOL...you're such an amazing poet, Brooke. I loved your winter words.

Hi Brooke,

I read this poem and was rocked and comforted in the imagery and pattern. It pulled out all the things I love about snow and winter. So easy and enticing. Sometimes I volunteer to shovel snow when the gleaming makes the crystals look like gems of yellow and white.

A full moon shining on a blanket of snow is hard to beat for beauty and your first stanza describes it perfectly. I also agree with the second stanza, when that wind gets whipping around, there's nothing like a cuddly blanket and a hot cup of tea.

There was something special about this piece because I could so relate to it. I love to look out at the snow piled up high, still clean and white. But when it is really cold, I snuggle up inside my down blanket and go back to sleep. Lovely piece.

It's odd to me how seeing a snowfall on the ground transforms an ordinary view into a mystical, mysterious place. It's true even when I pass by small patches of ice or snow by the side of the road. Somehow I feel as though I am a part of something strange and wonderful (or scary); so I really liked your idea of awakening from a dream to "partake of this mystical show." It does seem dream-like to watch the world change, doesn't it?

I like how you used the repeated "w" sound to create a whirling, dreamy sound to the poem. I felt like I was being wrapped around and around by a deep slumber and my dreams of snowflakes swirling around me. Then you've also employed the crisper sounds in blanKets, CRystal, ice-covered, partake, etc., to give a sense of crackling, like ice being crunched underfoot or boughs snapping from the weight of snow upon their branches.

My favorite lines:
it is then back in bed I'll be curling
to keep warm for the rest of the night
(I like being tucked back into bed after metaphorically partaking in this snowy, chilly show! Nice closure.)

Great poem--but now I'm shivering! LK

This is another great poem. You painted a clear picture of a cold snowy night, and curling up in bed while it is so cold outside, is one of my favourite things.
