Brooke,
I truly am so happy you wrote this poem, which is beautifully written, yet sad. What a shame we can't do something. It just drives me crazy what is happening in this world and nothing seems to done about it. I have no more money to give, but I wish I could do something. Thank you for sharing this with everyone, my friend.
Patti :)

Patti, I have zero money to give too - I make up for it through volunteer work in my own community - I can't pay for the food at the shelter, but I can serve it. And at my church I do lots of work organizing and working at fundraisers for local outreach organizations - we all have our niche. Thanks so much. Brooke :-)

Brooke, this is powerful, so real and so sad. Kudos to your daughter. I believe you put your point across very well. It's not fair. Life deals one blow after another. Keep telling it. pat

Thank you, Pat. You have seen more suffering than I'm sure most of us ever will. Brooke

Tragic and true. I think the situation with starvation is that it's such an old problem, such an overwhelming problem, that it's easier to 'fix' the ones that are temporary and feel more managable. Weird, isn't it. We want to help, but we want closure with assistance. Thank you for always keeping our eyes open. Deb

Hi Brooke
A very thought provoking poem and thanks for all the info in your authors notes. Life seems so unbalanced. Perhaps Gods does send these disasters to make the world aware.
Love to you Gaye

It makes me feel slightly shameful to say that I enjoyed this poem, but perhaps enjoy is not the correct word. I appreciate your work, and I think your skill beautifully reflects the tragedy that is our current reality. Thank you for this piece, it was mournfully ironic.

Thank you, Lilaea. I understand what you're saying - and I am honored that you appreciate what I have to say and how I've constructed this poem even though it is about such a tragic subject. I am grateful for your extremely generous rating and thoughtful comments :-) Brooke

My dear Brooke,
Powerful, emotive, heart rendering don't even begin to describe the qualities of this poem. I will have to rate it as one of your very best.

Reg

    Dear Brooke,
I am sure your well trained teacher's eye will have noticed, in my review, the incorrect use of the word "rendering" which should have been "rending", but like a true friend, you ignored the error. Bless you.

These are really frightening and shameful statistics that you mention in this well wrought poem. I like the way you interweave these current affairs into your work.

Brooke, I had to give you a six on this one and your sobering and heart-felt author's notes. You are so right and I can feel your love and passion for each and every soul. Lord, that a disaster is the only way we really show real compassion and love for one another. Blessings. Queenise

absolutely excellent job here!!!!
I found this piece of work to be very well written and heart breaking at the same time. The author notes were an added bonus. When will rich countries open their eyes and begin to helP? keep up the great writing.

This is such a powerful and moving poem delivered through a simple and repetitive structure. And that structure parallels the simple message - "but die for lack of rice and wheat" - a simple truth we ignore over and over again.

What can be done? Watch the world move on.
