I somehow don't believe for a second that you would not keep the yearnings and dreams of your fellow man from touching you in some way, Brooke. A beautiful poem written in MLK's memory.

I like it when I read a poem sandwich and don't realize it until I relook at the first line, because the first line and the last line are same, yet so different. When it fits so well in the circle and the journey takes you through the poem and back to where you started, but a changed person. The difference between zero degrees and three hundred and sixty degrees, you are at the same place, but not.

I enjoyed reading this poem, my brain couldn't pick anything to consider changing.

Brooke,

Your 'Mortal coil' poem really has very true and important thoughts within it. It touched me and your form seems perfect. These lines stood out to me:

"what satisfaction can I find
when I've walked past one left behind?
How bright can my achievements gleam
if I discount another's dream?"

Thank you for sharing your thoughts within this great poem.

Linda

An apt poem to dedicate for MLK and I enjoyed your reference to mortal coil, though at first I thought it a bit cliche. IN restrospect, I like it alot. Good rhyme with turmoil and an excellent, well composed, reflective poem. Potently enhanced by the photo choice as well~ Gleam and dream---a good fresh rhyme.

Well done as usual. Inspiring message and fine tribute.

Warm smiles,
rama devi

Thank you, rama devi - so glad you enjoyed this - I don't find phrases cliched just because they've been used before, but when in current usage they are used over and over. I'm glad you liked mortal coil in retrospect :-) Brooke

I did not see the King link until I read your notes. Your message is clear and strong and one to not pass up...

Well done.

I have found a site for women writers--many are professional. It's a neat place and there are pletny of poets there as well. I think you'd find some kindred spirits there and although I have not dived in yet, I think it is a fantastic way to open doors. www dot shewrites dot come. :)

Very nice tribute to Mr. King and his dream. It's always been my take on this matter that he wanted equality for all mankind-period. It had nothing to do with black or white, but all peoples. The subject matter and the way you expressed it shows how concerned you were with other peoples feelings and expectations(dreams). This peice deserved 6 stars, but wasn't available for me to give at this time. Thanks so much for sharing with me, Marshall

Brooke, the theme of the your poem is wonderful and humanitarian in its message. It brought to my mind Donne's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" lines " No man is an island,/Entire of itself.

As always you are displaying emotion and feeling in your poetry posts. It is so sad to see how politicians continue to try and build walls of prejudice between us for their own ends.

Happy New Year My Friend,

Knowledge

thank you, Knowledge - politicians on both sides of the aisle do have a way of polarizing people instead of uniting them - I guess they figure it's the only way to win elections, to make people fearful that horrid things will happen if they are not in power. Brooke :-)
