And what a fine re-visitation. Your love and deep affection, I do not count the two the same nor always coupled, for your father rings in every word. I am, perhaps, immodest to hope that my own daughter will one day express similar sentiments.

This is beautiful.
I can almost hear your daddy's deep voice reciting this poem.
As you know, I LOVE this form and your lovely artistry has given it such life!
Your refrain is very effective and memorable.
Lovely poem.

Brooke, not only is this a beautiful poem, the story behind it is even more so. I think it is wonderful that you honor your father with this poem and delight us with providing a wonderful read. I loved the first four lines:
His recitations stirred my soul
with deep bass tone.
A poet's words in his control
became his own.
Such is the art of storytelling. You were fortunate to have a father that could do this and instill in you the love of poetry and the pen. Exceptional. -ray

Brooke,
This is a lovely poem with a wonderful story. It is wonderful how much a voice can add to the beauty of
reading, reciting, singing, or acting. I loved the
voice of Gregory Peck. It had a magical sound to me.
Orson Wells had, to me, the greatest dramatic sound, and
Mario Lanza was the perfect singer, both in popular and classical music. Believe it or not, in prep school, in the 1940s, we were required to memorize and recite poetry.
That is when I fell in love with poetry. By the way, I did not have 12 wives:) I have had two, the 1st marriage lasted for 22 years, which was 4 times our involvement in
World War II, and I am in my current marriage for 26 years.
Were I writting a "Dear Abby" piece, I would warn all young men that one marriage is dangerous, and two times is insanity:)
Fondly, Lyle

I was guessing the four wives comment was a bit of hyperbole. LOL My dad had four wives. Only the first ended in divorce. I also love the voices of Peck and Wells. Thanks so much, dear friend :-) Brooke

Dear Brooke,
Your father was a much braver man than I:)
Seriously, any father that takes the time to read to his children and open up a world that is beautiful and wonderful for them to see and hear, has to be a wonderful person
with some very lucky children.
Fondly, Lyle

What a beautiful tribute to your father. I love the repetition of "deep bass tone" throughout the poem. It carries a voice of comfort throughout the whole piece.

Brooke,
I don't know what I liked the best your poem about your dad's bass tone story telling voice--

I had my own tears going even before I read your author's comments ... reminded me so much of how I feel about my father. And a story teller he is indeed ... this is precious and I will remember it always. XO

Well, this wonderful poem sure brought back a warm and lovely memory of sitting on my dad's lap and with my head on his chest, listening to him whistle and play the harmonica. He had a deep bass voice, too. Beautiful words and format, Brooke.
