howling winds and growing mounds of snow--Hey,we're getting snow here in Alabama, so this was appropriate! Not that the mounds are growing substantially, though. Still, I'm having a hard time seeing the flowers buried in the earth and the robins seem to be strangely silent.

What the entire poem reminded me of is how we often lose sight of hope and the possibility of rebirth/joy when we are metaphorically buried in hard circumstances. In those times, all I hear are the howling winds of despair and feel the bitter cold, no matter how my friends (the "poets") claim there is cause for hope. Okay, I must be a little overly-serious today to get such a serious meaning out of a funny poem. :)

My favorite line:
A frisky lamb will romp with newborn's mirth
(I like the youthful enthusiasm of the lamb in this image. I can picture he/she romping around in a meadow, almost laughing with the joy of new life. So appropriate for this poem.)

Excellent, of course! LK

I love the style of this poem as well as the content. I have not tried one of these before but I may give it a shot now. It looks like a beautiful form. Very nice!

This made me smile. It is as cold as the proverbial "witches' tit" here in Dallas. The winds are howling, the streets are icy and I had to go to work! This was the perfect poem for me to read first thing. Good job. ann

Ann, if you think it is that cold in Dallas, just imagine how cold it is up North! And I won't even mention how cold your Cowboys made it seem this past Sunday. LOL Thanks so much. Brooke :-)

Brooke,

I enjoyed reading your ottava rima poem about the hopes of spring. I especially liked these lines:

"a messenger of hope who in its birth
will cause my soul to soar as robins sing."

Your ending but a different twist to it. Sounds like you could use a real does of sunshine and spring.

Linda

Linda, thank you, and good morning :-) Glad you enjoyed, and yeah, no dose of spring is on the way - snow is predicted for tomorrow morning! LOL Brooke

LOL, humorous this maybe, but still made up of verses which continue to amaze me. It looks so easy, flowing out of your pen. My poetic side seems to have lost its magic. :)

Thank you, Nora. Hey, you're working on a romantic novel for me - don't go knocking your poetic side - it's just taking a little rest so I can have more of Kamal and Amir. LOL Brooke

Oh, Brooke. You old misery guts. This poem so neatly sums up a recurring mood of late. Watching pictures of others enjoying the current weather only makes it worse, doesn't it.

Thanks, Maurice - glad this caught your fancy - and it is not helpful that my southern California daughter just loves to taunt me with tales of her tee-shirt life. LOL You are most generous, my friend :-) Brooke

I don't recollect seeing any poems praising a winter storm of ice and snow. Only once have I seen a poem about placing your bare but on a frozen outhouse seat. Maybe that's enough for a poet to work with. Good job.

Lovely image selections. I've seen them rise through the snow and bloom. It's amazing. And, yep, spring was not even close. A great piece. Excellent Job.

adewpearl,

I have now read many of your wonderful pieces. I have come to the conclusions that your soul is pure and and with it comes the words to speak to many. Many in the sense soft and sometimes silent compassion in your writing which i believe to be one of the highest and most valuable traits in what we do, write. I find joy in reading your work my friend!

I'm with you on your great take on spring. Outside by me it's in the 20s. It's been that cold for days and no end in sight. Spring would be great right now.
