What a wonderful,giving story - I
was not familiar with this legend.
On a related (or unrelated) side note,
having companion birds, I'm familiar
with the practice of feather-plucking
among ill or emotionally disturbed parrots.
Luckily, ours are well-adjusted and don't
have this problem.
Your poem is wonderful and humbling and
brought tears to my eyes. Powerful and well done!

This is wonderful, the stork had given all of his chest feathers to comfort Christ. This is a lovely story in a poem. Very well written.

I love this series using the birth of Christ and the birds. Storks are so big and beautiful. I guess this is where the old wives tale started. joan marie

Another beautiful legend. I've never heard this one, either. It seems that the animals discerned that this was a special child, although most humans didn't. Thus they came from "round the Earth" when Jesus was born.
There's a nice parallel between the stork self-sacrificial, joyous plucking of his feathers, and Jesus' gift of greatest worth, his joyous future sacrifice of his body to give us life and peace.
My favorite line:
no thought of what he must destroy
(Could apply to either the stork or to Christ, who gave up glory and honor to become nothing.)
Lovely. LK

Hi Brooke. I so love the quatern. It is a beautifully lyrical form of poetry. This is a great poem about the legend of the stork delivering the baby Jesus to Mary in the manger. I enjoyed this piece very much! Sue

Hi Brooke,
Yes, this legend I have heard, but had forgotten about it. You are able to bring these stories to life through your descriptive poems. Loved this and look forward to the next!
