Our all loving God has set the laws of the universe into operation. Yet, even He will not break them even for a poor animal or his own children. To do so would cause total chaos of creation.
Thank You My Friend,
Knowledge

Thank you, Knowledge, for your thoughtful comments. I agree with you - I've never thought God micro-managed and changed the laws of nature for individual birds or people :-) Brooke

Hullo Adewpearl ...
This is beautiful .... but even more precious is what you have written in your Notes about the old man who is still talking about the Korean War ... and whose hands show what cold and frost have done to him in his homeless condition. Above all, both the poem and your Notes show your own loving and caring concern for all God's creatures - man and beast ... and beautiful birds.
Thank you for sharing this with us. Of course, there is nothing to suggest changing and I thank you for sharing it with us.
With love from ........ Nanette Mary.

So, true, Brooke. The bird is built to withstand the cold, for a time at least. I do feel sorry for wild animals, even though our climate here is much milder than yours, as a general rule. I especially like the part of this poem in which you describe the blizzard that can paralyze a river, but not deter the tiny cardinal. It really gives one pause for thought. Thanks for sharing this. Mary

Thank you, Mary. I'm so glad you liked the river line and the contrast - I think you've the first person to mention it. Brooke :-)

Pearl, your notes show me the heart that you have! It's a wonderful one that's full of compassion for your fellow man as well as for God's creatures. This little poem reminded me of our shop out in the back yard of our home. Little birds at night try to find shelter sometimes in there from the cold. I loved the poem! Great job! V.A.

Your concern towards the bird and for the people homeless is very thoughtful. Your poem was truly a blessing to pick such unique theme. Lovely words and a very soothing touch you expressed in the poem.
Kind Regards

Your poem raises some excellent points, Brooke - and sadly, for now there is no answer. Winter has arrived, and unfortunately there are many would feel more compassion for the Cardinal, than for the man. I hope he got the care he needed. Though he may not have much, at least he has someone like you to care about him. Rose.

Yes, Rose - you are right - how many people have spent more money on bags of bird seed and designer bird houses than they've spent on donations to the local shelter? Thanks so much, my friend. Brooke

This is a beautiful poem Brooke that tells us all
a story of the birds hardship and attempt to reach
a safe haven. However it also has another deep
meaning of the desperation that other souls like
him fight the cold elements without any prospect
of finding the warmth and comfort they desire.
A poem to open the eyes of all who read this...

I really liked this poem on Cardinals. There is a distinctive difference between the males and the females. One has very brightly colored feathers and one is very dull in appearance, but I cannot remember which is which. This was just a well written verse that was my pleasure to have read and written a review for... John

Beautidul poem, and a wonderful way to tie in with all those who have no place to go. You have a deft touch with works like these, Brooke, and they're a pleasure to read.

Oh, this was very powerful. Brought tears to my eyes. I love cardinals, they are such beautiful creatures. Males are more showy, with their crimson red feathers; females less so, as often happens in nature!
You describe this poor bird's winter's ire with exceptional visuals. I could almost feel this bird hanging on an icy branch, cinging to life.
Loved those:
this tiny bird found peace in moment's pause
before it flew into the blizzard's jaws.
And these show your warm, compassionate heart:
I offered prayers his precious life be blessed,
that he find welcome shelter, safe and warm,
then prayed for all who must this winter roam
without the comfort of a cordial home.
