I missed this one, Brooke, I was out of state for Thanksgiving week so I am now catching up with reading. This is excellent & very heart warming. It would make a beautiful Christmas card. The whole poem exudes PEACE. You deserve the award.

A very simple but important message. The repetition of "As carols sing of peace on Earth" keeps bringing this message back to the reader's attention. It also reminds me of bells ringing, carolers going around the neighbourhood and starting their songs again and also the sound of singing wafting through the winter wind. Great picture to accompany your poem

It's hard to explain - perhaps the brevity and lack of deeper meaning. Many of your poems have so many levels of meaning and leave me wishing for more and wanting to reread them. I don't get this same attachment to this poem. Perhaps too much repetition of the one phrase? Whether just use at beginning and end?

I didn't realize you could say or there was a three syllable way of saying re-a-lize (is that it?. Interesting either way! Its good to learn something new. Another lovely triolet from you - and a terrible reminder for me that Xmas is nearly here and I have made no preparations, nor bought any presents, but I have booked an air ticket back home to spend Xmas with my mum and dad's in the North Island! I'm sending my wish for peace heavenwards, too, Brooke. It struck me that the "peace" might be peace on earth (as in, rest from war); peace with God (as in, every person on earth would have peace with God); or peace internally (as in, everybody on earth would have internal peace, peace from strife in relationships, etc.) The last is particularly meaningful to me today as I went to my sweet grandmother's funeral yesterday. It will be hard this Christmas to not have her here, singing the Christmas carols and singing "Happy Birthday, Jesus" when we blow out the candles on our "birthday cake" for Jesus. (She loved that!) As sweet as she was, though, I had an uneasy feeling about how the REST of the family would get along. There is still so much strife and pain over past events and we all desperately need peace on earth (or at least our little corner of it). So I'm wishing for peace, too.
Gorgeously written poem, as always. I like the capitalization of both "heavenwards" and "holy." The "h" sound is hushed, reflecting the meditative desire for peace & quiet.
My favorite lines:

LK, that first Christmas without a beloved relative is always difficult, but I always remind myself that those are the last people who would want to put a damper on the enjoyment of life of those they've left behind.
