Well, bringing up the media is never good for someone with poetic aspirations, but I try to hold myself to a high standard. I find myself in some strange situations.

I thank you very much for your compliments and this review and glad that you enjoyed it too. Mike

Hi Mike,
Don't you mean "Going Rogue?" Rouge is french for red. Or is that an intentional typo, a spoof. As for Sarah Palin, I'd like to avoid political commentary. On the one hand, her independent, frontier Annie Oakley spirit is refreshing. But, there's an opportunist, self-promoting aspect to her that rubs me the wrong way. Although putting her on the Republican ticket was obviously a ploy to win female votes and her obvious sex appeal was a subliminal means of capturing the hearts and libidos of red-blooded American men, it's obvious she was used. But, I also think despite her bite back attitude, her values aren't well-tempered, thoughtfully balanced, and visionary for me. It's all the same dialog I've grown weary of during eight years of Bush.

Your essay is thoughtful, researched, and eloquently stated. I applaud you on that. And though I might consider some of your points, let's just say we could agree to disagree.

All the best,
Merle

Opportunistic, what about a Democrat States Attorney crashing a fundraiser for a Republican County Executive without paying. I'm afraid that I was responsible as I told a couple of opportunistic Rebublicans that the States Attorney opperated illegally and against Maryland's state constitution with a report that he did. I also mentioned that that constution was a wonderful document and in plain and direct language allows for the peaceful of forceful overthrough of state government.

It funny, I have been labeled opportunistic with some of my writing. Here and in my community, I don't deny it. With politics, one has to be opportunistic and take advantage of that opportunity as well, forge future opportunities. You don't and you won't be elected. Certain things, I have come to accept with politics. The BS meter is the most important as well the feeling if those opportunities taken are at the expense of either other people or the future of your security and personal freedom.

With this writing it is less about politics and more about respect. I'll be honest, with life and death, I have been in Sarah's position and with hounds on your heal, it is best to turn and fight them the best that you can.

I appreciate this review as I enjoyed it and thank you for them and the review. Mike

This is an interesting story and you have made your points well. The media rarely ever exposes lies even when they are exposed. Jealously with women is certainly an issue. She definitely has morals and will stick by her guns past the belittling, as in the picture that she has had to endure. Our country is rapidly decaying. Great story. Jean

I don't know about totally decaying, many times in our history it has seemed that way and then people wake up and do their part to fix things. I enjoy reading this review and thank you for it. Mike

I enjoyed your take on the issues Sarah Palin has had to deal with and the reputation she has earned. I live in Alaska, so I have my own opinions. We were fully supportive of her bid for Vice President and feel that she did some good things in acting for the people of Alaska as our Governor. Great work on this piece, though I'm sure it will bring you some flack from the politically minded here at FS. I don't believe the majority here vote Republican, ever. lol I just think this due to some of the reviews I've received for pieces I've written and I'm really not all that politically minded to begin with. I applaud your effort to stand up and be heard. Thanks for making a statement on Sarah's behalf.

on small fix: I have seen many contentions within ranks of conservatives and republicans that feel that she isn't right (I think you need to capitalize Republicans)

Great job, Mike!

Kim

I made the corrections and thank you for them, your comments, the compliments and this review. In this case it is about people's principles rather then politics, but still people are cool to this one. Most writers tend not to share our views, but to me, there are times when it is OK to cross a line and stand for something that is right.

Have a great week ahead! Mike

I still am not sure if your title meant to be Sarah Plain or not, but I appreciate your opinion and all the obvious research and attention you have spend here. Lea Ann

Boy, I wonder what people read into that typo. I fixed it a it doesn't show that I am as detailed as I should be. You know, there are times I feel obligated to step in and become a knight over a principle. I thank you very much for your review. Mike

You did an excellent job of expressing your view points. I only wish Millicent Fawcett would have written a book about going rogue.

I did Wiki her and she does have an interesting story. That's what's left me a bit dumb founded in Sarah's plight. Where are the women's movement on such a crass thing being said. I think that the inherant problem with any organization is when politics overshawdow and lead them away from the principles that established them. I feel that I can cite this with the NAACP, to where the best role that they can do changes, but they tend to hold on to perceptions and not reality.

The democratic mayor of Baltimore probably hates my guts, because I like her, I try to hold her feet to the fires of principle. She is going through what I think is similar to Sarah Palin as people are demonizing her. I actually believe the reason for this, was she was expected to be a joke of a Mayor and stepped into handling the job quite well.

She is alleged to steal gift cards for the poor and they spent millions in prosecuting her. I feel to her defense and quite honeslty, felt that there wasn't much there, citing the time and expense that has taken place as oppossed to the perceived theft. It doesn't add up in my mind. Please keep in mind that while City Council President, I felt that she made sure she had her come-up-ins in perks, was in your face and careless.

It amazed me to see how people used this totally gray acusation to their advantage. She wholeheartedly supported the Obama candacy and then when he came to Baltimore, that camp totally uninvited her to his appearance. To me, regardless, this was a slight to the people of Baltimore that shouldn't have been either permitted or tolerated. She blamed the republicans as the prosecuter is one and I called her on the carpet for that, because being one, know of so many that will stab you in the back and work for a democrat for the simple reason that they have the power in Maryland. At times there are a lot of interesting deals to look at.

I was not treated well for stating my opinions about the mayor's plight, but the prosecuter shot himself in the foot when he dropped their most important witness, her ex-boyfriend, who I have heard of and felt is shady for years. Hopefully Monday, the jury will have decided.

I thank you for reading this, turning me one to Millicent, the compliments and this review. Mike K2

I'm very impressed with your passion to stand up for what you believe. I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin's for many reasons, but when a person(s) goes on national televsion and calls our President weak because he bowed before the Japanese Emperor and Empress that is not acceptable. She priased George W. Bush for his efforts, but didn't mention he held hands and kissed the Saudi King or that he invited the Supreme Islamic leader to Washington and gave him the red carpet treatment.
She is not qualified to be President of the United States. All one has to do is listen to her.
She supported the 700 million bail out, and now is blaming Obama for our economic situation, and is inferring that he is a socialist because he preventing small businesses from excelling. Well, Sarah is a small business owner--what a coincidence.
She stated she was qualified to be President because she has 'common sense.' Well, my little ten year old neighbor has common sense, but she would not qualify to be President.
Sorry, I'm also passionate about politics.
Thank you very much for your wonderful comments.

the Republicans' dirty campaigning - add apostrophe
Mike, I will not comment on the political issues here because that is one sure fire way to ruin a friendship. LOL But I think you express your opinions clearly and passionately, so that is why I'm giving you a five, not as any endorsement of Sarah Palin! ;-) Brooke

I thank you for the suggestions that you made, (you missed the horrible title mispelling LOL), the compliments and this review.

Like it or not, for me the real importance of poetry is to make the world a better and fairer place. While I have taken many hits and a couple of threats over this, I feel that is why I have this gift of writing. Can't feed people food poetry all the time, though another on of those peoms is next!

I really haven't done much political issue wise as I feel that if I did, I would be downgraded for the works. I try to keep them on a must need to do basis. Oh! That is one of the things that I like about using poetry the most, while people can see where the writer is coming from, they can still consider the point being made without the political taint to it all.

I also feel that any friendship that is ruined by politics or political thought is not a friendship in the first place.

Politics can be funny, though I am a right to carry person, it hasn't served me well as I had to put my cold finger on a person's back of keck in order to prevent him from drawing a real gun. As fast as I said that, is how fast things took place. Maryland had a, "Saturday Night Special Ban' and I worked against it because as written, it was a stupid and dangerous law. People would ask me if I am a member of the NRA and when I answered, "Yes," they became totally terrified of me with a few running away. It was merely a preception created by the media and politicians at the time. I then started telling them, "No way, I am a member of the MNLRA." They asked me what was that and it stated, "Well that is the Muzzle Loaders Rifle Association." Not know what muzzle loading riffles are black powder weapons like flintlocks, I told them, "Well we fire off anti aircraft guns at Abderdeen (proving grounds) and I have 10,000 rounds in the basement ready to go." Do you know that most people thought it was the neatest thing they ever heard? It reminded me of, "The Royal None Such of Mark Twains claim to fame. The cops that over heard this asked my I was telling people that and I picked on the next person as a NRA member. The police couldn't believe the people reaction and got a laugh when I told them, "That is what Maryland politics is all about, BS."

With this writing, I tried to keep the politics out of it, because to me there is a principle at work here, as well a bad point of human nature. I have been seathing over Sarah Palin treatment for quite a while and perhaps it is best that the example that I use is from a Rebublican. To me, its stupid for them to jump on this type of bandwagon as the same techniques, have and will, be used on the people that they support. With any party of campaign, the media fails to inform us when these type of comments is all that is bantered.

It is easy to see why there is no outcry for Sarah by organizations and for me, it is a good indicator when politics have eclipsed there founding reasons and principles that they were established for. While in this case, I have spoken in favor of Baltimore's current Mayor as similar techniques and efforts have been waged against her. The details are in my reviewer response of lola29.

Talking from the UK I thought she was a poor attempt to get the voters attention. I think it certainly helped you President get in, but i have to admit she is very sexy.I think its the spectacles. An interesting piece of writing and a great picture

I admit, I'd had my fun with her as well, but not about sexuality. Many people were put off with her hundting activities and I said it would be great to be in a warm cabin and say, "Woman! I'm hungry! Get me some food!" The hearing, "Yes, dear!" I then made the sound of a gun's slide being pulled back. Not only in preparing it, but getting it as well.

In hearing her speak and convey ideas, I feel that she is no dumby. With McCain being the person who he is, I doubt very much that he would pick her strictly for any type of sexual appeal, though I am sure that it was intended to add.

I thank you very much for this review and thank you for it! Have a great weekend, Mike
